President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare, professionalism, and operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Army.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the opening of the Chief of Army Annual Conference 2025 in Lagos on Monday, Tinubu pledged sustained support for the Armed Forces to effectively carry out their constitutional duties.

In a statement issued by Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, the President paid tribute to serving and retired officers, praising their sacrifices, leadership, and patriotism in defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and unity.

Tinubu said the conference provides a platform for strategic reflection amid evolving security threats, noting the participation of former Service Chiefs and elder statesmen as a testament to the Army’s enduring heritage.

Defence Minister, retired Gen. Christopher Musa, described the conference as critical for assessing operations and readiness, urging stronger joint operations, inter-agency cooperation, and a whole-of-society approach to security.

Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, thanked the President and National Assembly for support in welfare, equipment, training, and reforms, noting that such backing has enhanced operational readiness. He reaffirmed the Army’s leadership role in tackling terrorism, insurgency, and banditry.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also commended the Army’s contributions to national security and pledged continued state support.
