The late Nigerian leader, who passed away on Sunday in a UK clinic at the age of 82, is set to be buried later today in his hometown of Daura, in accordance with Islamic burial rites.
The body was received at the airport by a nine-man committee inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu to oversee the funeral arrangements.
Members of the committee include senior government officials, religious leaders and representatives of the Armed Forces.
A somber mood enveloped the tarmac as military officers gave a brief ceremonial salute before the convoy departed for Daura, where final burial preparations are underway.
The Federal Government had earlier declared a period of national mourning, and tributes have continued to pour in from across the globe, honoring Buhari’s legacy as a former military ruler and two-term civilian President.
