Turaki had appealed to former U.S. President Donald Trump and other international leaders to “save democracy in Nigeria” amid escalating tensions within the opposition party. His plea came after a violent leadership clash within the PDP, which has further deepened the party’s internal divisions.
In a statement issued in Abuja, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka criticized Turaki’s remarks as “reckless” and “unpatriotic,” accusing him of seeking foreign interference in Nigeria’s internal affairs. Morka described the call as a “dangerous threat to the country’s sovereignty,” adding that Turaki’s appeal for foreign intervention amounted to a “call for invasion.”
“For a man recently declared National Chairman by a faction of his deeply fractured party, Turaki’s desperate comments reflect a lack of leadership and an inability to manage his party’s crisis,” Morka said. “Rather than working to unite the warring factions of the PDP, Turaki has chosen to invite foreign powers into Nigeria’s domestic issues.”
Turaki’s comments followed a chaotic confrontation at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, where a faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, clashed with another faction led by Governors Bala Mohammed, Seyi Makinde, Ahmadu Fintiri, and Caleb Muftwang.

In the aftermath of the confrontation, Turaki told reporters, “I want to call on President Trump. What is at stake is not just a genocide against Nigerian Christians. He should come and save democracy in Nigeria. Democracy is under threat. I am calling on all other developed nations, all advanced democracies. Come and save Nigeria, come and save democracy.”
Turaki also accused Wike who was expelled from the PDP on Saturday of storming the party’s secretariat with supporters and security personnel to disrupt scheduled National Executive Committee meetings.
The APC, however, expressed skepticism over Turaki’s call for international intervention. “Turaki’s appeal to foreign powers is not just an admission of his party’s inability to handle its internal struggles, but it marks a public declaration of the PDP’s decline,” the statement added. “We trust that the international community will dismiss these unpatriotic calls as a distraction from the PDP’s ongoing internal failures.”
The APC further urged Nigerians to remain supportive of President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, emphasizing that the current political crisis within the PDP should not detract from the country’s progress.
