The Lagos State All Progressives Congress, APC, has dismissed as an “empty boast” the recent claim by former Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, that the African Democratic Congress, ADC, would take over power at the federal and state levels in 2027.

In a statement released by the APC Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, he criticised Aregbesola for turning against the party that, according to him, shaped his political career.

“From Lagos Commissioner to Osun Governor and then Minister, Aregbe ate, dined, and thrived on the APC table. Today, in a desperate bid for relevance, he is busy setting fire to the same house that made him. That, dear Nigerians, is political suicide of the highest order,” Oladejo said.

Aregbesola, who served as Minister of Interior under the APC administration, had declared that his new party, the ADC, would unseat President Bola Tinubu and the APC in the 2027 general elections. He made the statement while unveiling a grassroots mobilisation strategy in Lagos.

But the APC responded, accusing Aregbesola of attempting to rewrite his political history.

“When Aregbe condemns the APC, he is not damaging us, he is shredding his own résumé. Every attack on APC is an attack on the very foundation of his career. It is akin to a man writing his autobiography with an eraser,” Oladejo said.

The party also took aim at the ADC’s electoral performance, describing it as a “political mirage” with no substantial support base.

Oladejo reaffirmed APC’s confidence heading into the 2027 elections, claiming the party’s governance record will speak for itself.
