The Super Eagles forward came off the bench in the second half and capped off the emphatic win with a composed close-range finish in stoppage time. Earlier in the match, Adams had a goal disallowed for offside.

“Absolute madness,” Adams told the club’s media after the match. “I want to give credit to Isaac Romero. For me, the first thing I had to do was defend and then go forward. I’m very happy with my first goal at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.”

The 25-year-old was set up by fellow Nigerian international Chidera Ejuke, who replaced Alexis Sánchez in the second half. The pair combined brilliantly to seal what was Barcelona’s heaviest league defeat since September 2015.

Adams praised the team’s performance and the hard work behind the scenes.

“This gives the team a lot of credit,” he said. “We’ve been in a bubble, we’ve done what we’ve worked for, and all of that has paid off.”

Reflecting on the historic win, he added, “It’s a historic moment. We have to focus on the positives and put the rest aside.”

The goal marks Adams’ second consecutive strike in LaLiga, following his match-winner against Rayo Vallecano in a 1-0 away win. On both occasions, Adams made his impact off the bench.

Speaking ahead of the clash with Barcelona, Adams had said: “I think I have the ability to score in every game if I have the opportunities.” And he delivered.

Adams now has two goals and one assist in six appearances this season form that will be a welcome boost for Nigeria as they prepare for crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin next month.
