This piece of information was disclosed in a statement signed by Special Adviser on Basic and Secondary Education to the Governor, Kenechukwu Nwosu, noting that the induction will run for 12 days.

According to the statement, the training programme is being facilitated by the Education Reform Implementation Team with support from Lead Master Trainers previously trained under the AbiaFIRST initiative.

“The recruitment and training of teachers is a direct response to UNESCO’s alarming projection that 44 million additional teachers are needed globally by 2030 to achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on quality education.

The government noted that over 30,000 applications were received during the recruitment exercise out of which 5,349 teachers were selected “strictly on merit, making this the most competitive and transparent hiring process in the state’s education history.”

Nwosu added, “Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR has consistently emphasized that teacher welfare is the backbone of educational reform. Since taking office, he has ensured that salaries are paid promptly by the 28th of every month, a major turnaround from past irregularities.”

The training, the government said, forms part of the broader AbiaFIRST Education Programme, which covers free and compulsory education from Primary 1 to JSS 3, recruitment of best-fit teachers, continuous professional development, and the upgrading of school facilities.

The induction programme is structured across different levels, including bilingual instruction, classroom management, inquiry-based learning, project-based learning, technical education, and ICT modules such as robotics, artificial intelligence and green energy integration.
