The District Customary Court of Appeal sitting in Erin-Osun, Osun State, has adjourned the hearing of a marriage dissolution suit filed by Awolumate Salimat against her husband, Muhammad Mujitabah, until July 1, 2026, for further proceedings.

Salimat, a teacher residing in the Oke-Eran area of Ilobu, approached the court seeking the dissolution of the marriage over what she described as her husband’s irresponsibility and indifferent attitude toward the family.

According to the plaintiff, the couple has been living separately for the past seven years, despite several reconciliation efforts made by family members.

Narrating her ordeal before the court, Salimat said her husband allegedly changed suddenly while she was pregnant with their three-month-old twins.

“I was carrying a three-month-old twin pregnancy when my husband suddenly changed and stopped communicating with me. At the time, I was living in Ilorin, Kwara State, before I later returned to Osun State. I still do not know what caused the sudden change,” she told the court.

She also appealed to the court to grant her custody of their four children: Muhammad Mujitabah Mukhtar, 13; Muhammad Mujitabah Muizah, 10; and the twins, Muhammad Mujitabah Abdullah and Husseinat, both aged seven.

Salimat further requested that the respondent be compelled to take responsibility for the welfare and upkeep of the children.

The respondent was absent in court despite reportedly being served with court notices.

Following his absence, the presiding judge, K. B. Adeyinka, adjourned the matter until July 1, 2026, for further hearing.
