This confirmation came in a letter dated November 17, signed by APC’s National Secretary, Dr. Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, in response to a letter from MJS Law Firm. The firm, led by renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Prof. Yemi Oke, had earlier reached out to the party regarding the purported suspension of Daniel.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Prof. Oke said the law firm had written to the leadership of the party at various levels state, Southwest, and national demanding official documentation regarding the senator’s alleged suspension. The firm had given the APC seven days to respond, threatening legal action if no official clarification was received.
The party responded two days before the expiration of the deadline, affirming that Daniel remains a full member of the APC. Dr. Basiru, in his letter, clarified that the APC’s National Working Committee (NWC) had never deliberated on any allegations of anti-party activities involving the senator. He emphasized that, as a result, there has been no decision to suspend him.
“Senator Otunba Olugbenga Daniel remains a bona fide member of the party,” Basiru’s letter confirmed.
This development follows an earlier statement from the Ogun State chapter of the APC, which had defended Daniel’s indefinite suspension. The state party’s Director of Publicity, Femi Nuberu, explained that the suspension was based on claims that Daniel had engaged in anti-party activities during the August Remo Federal Constituency by-election.
Nuberu insisted that the suspension followed the party’s constitutional processes and that the window for appealing the decision had passed. He further dismissed criticisms from some APC leaders in Ogun East, who had gathered at Daniel’s Asoludero residence to protest the suspension. These leaders suggested the move was part of a larger scheme by Governor Dapo Abiodun to block Daniel’s bid for re-election to the Senate in 2027.
The APC spokesperson stood by the party’s decision, stating, “If the Daniel supporters want to appeal on social media, that’s their right. The party’s decision stands.”
Meanwhile, Prof. Oke praised the APC for its transparency and fairness in addressing the issue, noting that the NWC’s decision to investigate the suspension was a step in the right direction. The law firm assured that Senator Daniel would remain law-abiding and committed to contributing to the growth of the party in Ogun State.
As the investigation unfolds, all eyes are now on the APC’s next steps in resolving the matter and maintaining unity within the party.
