An official government gazette released by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the decision, stating that Sanda, who has spent over six years at the Suleja Medium Security Custodial Centre, will serve about six more years based on compassionate grounds, good behaviour, and concern for her children.
According to the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, the President reviewed the initial list of pardoned persons after receiving complaints from the public and the Council of State. The review found that some beneficiaries did not meet legal requirements, leading to the withdrawal or adjustment of some pardons.

Fagbemi said the review aimed to ensure fairness and uphold justice while still showing compassion. He added that the Secretariat of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Prerogative of Mercy has been moved to the Ministry of Justice to improve future reviews.
The earlier pardon for Sanda had sparked public criticism, with opposition parties and political leaders accusing the government of undermining justice and the fight against crime.
