The building, located at 333 Borno Way, Alagomeji, caved in at 9 p.m., prompting a swift emergency response from rescue teams. The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, confirmed that the body of a male victim had been recovered during ongoing rescue operations.
“So far, four persons have been rescued and are in stable condition,” NEMA stated.
Rescue efforts continued through the night, with emergency personnel from NEMA, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and other response units working tirelessly at the scene.
“There is speculation that two more individuals may still be trapped beneath the debris,” the agency added, noting that the exact number of people still unaccounted for remains unclear. Eyewitnesses provided reports, with some suggesting five or six individuals were inside the building at the time of the collapse.
Rescued victims, all adult males, have been taken to nearby hospitals and are reportedly in stable condition.
