Following a disappointing 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture last November at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria must now claim all three points to stay in contention in Group C.
With just two matches remaining in the group stage, the Super Eagles sit third with 11 points from eight games — three points behind group leaders Benin Republic and second-placed South Africa. Only a win in Polokwane will keep Nigeria’s qualification hopes alive ahead of next week’s crucial clash against Benin Republic in Uyo.
Star striker Victor Osimhen returns to the starting XI to bolster Nigeria’s attack, lining up alongside Ademola Lookman, Moses Simon, and Tolu Arokodare. In midfield, Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi are tasked with dictating play, while captain William Troost-Ekong anchors the defence. Stanley Nwabali retains his place in goal.
However, Nigeria will be without key players Ola Aina, Bright Osayi-Samuel, and Cyriel Dessers due to injury.
Coach Eric Chelle and his squad know that anything short of victory could spell the end of their World Cup dreams.
