The Nigerian government has announced a significant increase in passport fees starting from September 1, 2024. This decision is intended to maintain and improve the quality and security of the Nigerian passport.
Based on the review, a 32-page passport booklet with five-year validity previously charged at N35,000 will now be N50,000 only; while a 64-page passport booklet with 10-year validity which was N70,000 will be N100,000 only.
According to a statement released by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the fee hike is necessary to ensure that the country’s passports meet international standards and remain reliable documents for travel.
While the NIS acknowledges that this increase may cause some inconvenience to passport applicants, they have assured Nigerians that they remain committed to providing transparent and efficient services.
This move comes as part of the Nigerian government’s efforts to modernize its passport system and enhance its security features.
