After years of anticipation, Adekunle Almoruf Kosoko, popularly known as Adekunle Gold, a Nigerian singer and songwriter, has finally teamed up with Olamide Gbenga Adedeji, known simply as Olamide, a Nigerian rapper, singer, songwriter, and record executive, to release “Formation” on April 9, 2026.

“Formation” is one of those collaborations where two different worlds meet. It is not just a casual song, it tries to show growth, discipline, and lifestyle at the same time.

From the first line:

“All my ladies formation, if you are sexy go low low,”

The song immediately sets a party mood, it feels lively, fun, and easy to dance to. Adekunle Gold’s part carries a calm and smooth vibe, his lines suggest moving forward in life, staying consistent, and building something meaningful. It gives the song a soft motivational feeling, like a reminder that success takes time.

Then Olamide comes in, and the tone changes.

His verse brings strong energy and confidence. Lines like:

“Million million dollar lo n na (dollar)
No be small small small dollar
No be young young dollar to n na (dollar)
Awon young dullards
3 comma comma logbe (comma)
Owo Otedola”

It focuses heavily on money, success, and status. It shows how far he has come and how big he is now.

But beyond the confidence, there are some issues; Olamide’s verse feels too raw at some points and even a bit dirty. The use of explicit and harsh words sounds too excessive, especially when compared to Adekunle Gold’s smoother and calmer style.

Lines like:
“Boje owuro or laalé
Toba jé cover lofè
Mashana si é labé, labé, labé”

The message leans more into physical desire, which may not sit well with every listener. It also diminishes then lyrical maturity that Olamide should have attained given his experience in the industry.

Another weakness of the song is that it focuses too much on money and enjoyment. While it is catchy and fun, it does not go very deep. The constant talk about wealth, spending, and attraction makes it feel more like a vibe than a meaningful story.

Still, the song is not without its strengths which is the chemistry between both artistes. Adekunle Gold brings calmness, and romance while Olamide brings the street energy. This contrast makes the song interesting, even though it might feel unbalanced at times.

“Formation” is a song that is easy to enjoy because of the rhythm and vibe, but it is not perfect. It is a good collaboration, but it could have been stronger with better balance and less focus on explicit content.

So, after all the long wait and high expectations, the real question is, was it worth it? For the vibe and energy, yes. But for depth and balance, it falls a little short of expectation.
