This is contained in a statement issued today by the Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP NWC stated that it is bound by the judgment of the Court of Appeal on the matter.

The NWC stated that it has begun sending its resolution affirming Udeh-Okoye as the PDP National Secretary to the Independent National Electoral Commission and other relevant bodies for recognition, following the Court of Appeal’s judgment.

The statement read in part “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, at its meeting today, Wednesday, February 12, 2025 extensively considered the memo dated 11th February, 2025 presented by the Acting National Chairman on the issue of the National Secretary of the PDP.

“The NWC, in considering the memo thoroughly examined the attached documents namely; the declaratory judgment of the High Court of Enugu, the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Enugu Division which pronounced and declared Rt. Hon. S.K.E Udeh Okoye as the National Secretary of the PDP; the legal opinion and advice by Dr. Kabiru T. Turaki SAN as well as that of the National Legal Adviser of the PDP.

“After due consideration of the memo and the attachments, the NWC overwhelmingly recognizes, acknowledges and confirms Rt. Hon. S.K.E Udeh Okoye as the substantive National Secretary of the PDP in full compliance with and obedience to the judgment of the Court of Appeal, recognizing that there is no subsisting or superseding judgment or order from any court of superior authority or hierarchy.

“The NWC has commenced the transmission of its resolution/decision affirming Rt. Hon. S.K.E Udeh Okoye as the PDP National Secretary to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant bodies for recognition in line with the judgment of the Court of Appeal.”

The PDP NWC however praised its leaders, members, and stakeholders for their loyalty, respect for the rule of law, and support during this critical time.

It assured all that the party will remain committed to its Constitution, the rule of law, and its founding vision for stability, growth, democracy, and the well-being of Nigerians.

The PDP has faced internal challenges both before and after the 2023 elections, resulting in instability and divisions within the party.

Anyanwu said the BoT’s decision affirming Ude-Okoye as National Secretary cannot be taken seriously.

He and Ude-Okoye have been at odds over the party’s National Secretary position despite the Court of Appeal’s judgment.

Ude-Okoye was endorsed by the PDP Southeast caucus following Anyanwu’s decision to contest the Imo State governorship election.

Upon his return, Ude-Okoye refused to relinquish the position, leading to legal battles.

During the party’s BoT meeting in Abuja, Ude-Okoye and Anyanwu’s supporters engaged in a public altercation after he was locked out of the meeting venue.

However, during an emergency BoT meeting on Wednesday, PDP trustees affirmed Ude-Okoye as the authentic National Secretary.

Reacting to the BoT’s decision, Anyanwu insisted that Ude-Okoye could never be sworn in as directed due to an ongoing court case.

While addressing journalists, he argued that the expiration of the tenures of about 80 percent of the BoT members who attended the meeting at Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja would prevent the BoT’s decision from taking effect.

Anyanwu who said he is also a member of the BoT, claimed he was not invited to the meeting, and neither was the National Chairman.

“They are also aware that this matter is in court. Even Chairman Wabara, who was taken to court, sent a representative. That is just an advice, and it cannot be taken seriously,” he said.

BoT Chairman and former Senate President, Adulphus Wabara, made this announcement at the ongoing 80th trustees’ meeting in Abuja.

Recall that on January 31, PDP governors, led by Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, endorsed the Court of Appeal’s judgment and urged the National Working Committee to implement it.

The forum also distanced its members from Senator Samuel Anyanwu and confirmed Ude-Okoye as the party’s National Secretary during a meeting in Asaba, Delta State.

Wabara stated that the decision was made after thoroughly reviewing all the issues and documents provided by Ude-Okoye and Anyanwu.
