Amid the lingering fuel scarcity in the country, the NNPCL increased the pump price of petrol from ₦568 to ₦855, ₦897 – depending on the location per litre.

Condemning the move in a statement, NLC President, Joe Ajaero, accused the Federal Government of betraying labour movement.

According to the NLC President, the current administration is yet to implement the new national minimum wage of N70,000.

While accusing the government of insincerity, Ajaero described the policies of the current administration as traumatic.

He recalled how President Bola Tinubu gave labour leaders the option of choosing from N250,000 as the new minimum wage in exchange of petrol price at N1,500, and said they rejected the offer due to the impact it would have on Nigerians.

Ajaero regretted that instead of the promised reversal, the rate has since been jerked up further putting more Nigerians and businesses in jeopardy.

In a statement signed by its President, Joe Ajaero, and made available to our correspondent in Abuja, the Labour Centre expressed shock and dismay at the clandestine increase in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit ,PMS, describing it as a deep sense of betrayal.

The NLC recalled that one of the reasons for accepting the N70,000 national minimum wage was the understanding that the pump price of PMS would not be increased.

The Congress accused the government of reneging on its promises and implementing ferocious right-wing market policies” that have driven Nigerians to their all-time low.

The NLC also condemned the government’s crackdown on protesters, the arrest and detention of citizens on trumped-up charges, and the encroachment on the duties of the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

The NLC vowed to stand resolute with the people and not be intimidated by the government or its security agencies, warning that appropriate decisions would be taken in the coming days.

Ajaero said in the coming days, the appropriate organs of the Congress will be meeting to take appropriate decisions which will be made public.
