Details remain unclear, but according to local reports, several students were taken during the late-night raid.

A source from a Catholic church in the state confirmed the incident, saying the school was still trying to determine the exact number of victims. He added that an official statement would be issued later.

The Niger State Police Command said information would be provided in due course. However, the Head of Department, Disaster and Relief, Agwara Local Government, confirmed the attack by telephone, explaining that armed men invaded the school between 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m.

A separate report by a national television station said 52 students were taken.

The assault comes just days after a similar kidnapping in Maga, Kebbi State, where 25 students were seized, further heightening concern over rising insecurity in schools across northern Nigeria. The crisis deepened on Thursday when more than 50 schools were shut down in Kwara State due to bandit attacks.

Amid the escalating situation, President Bola Tinubu cancelled his planned trips to South Africa and Angola to coordinate the national response.

According to the victim’s family, Abubakar was struck on the head by a police officer while riding on a motorcycle. Witnesses at the scene claimed bystanders had to pressure the officers to take him to a hospital. The family has also accused the police of attempting to cover up the incident by suggesting the motorcycle collided with a car, an account disputed by those who witnessed the event.

In response, the Kaduna State Police Command stated that the motorcycle, driven at high speed, collided with a stationary police vehicle. The rider reportedly fled the scene, leaving the injured passenger behind. Police claim their officers took the victim to the hospital and reported the incident.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) released its official bulletin shared on the Board’s official handle, saying that all previously uploaded results had been cleared from its system to avoid confusion in the admission process.

According to the Board, “candidates who sat the UTME with awaiting results are required to upload their O’Level results as soon as they are released. Many began uploading the WAEC 2025 SSCE before the final results were released. To avoid any confusion, the Board cleared all prior uploads, and all candidates are now required to re-upload their results, whether or not they differ from the earlier results uploaded.”

The Board further stressed that failure to comply would affect eligibility for admission consideration in the ongoing process.

“Please re-upload your 2025 SSCE result to the JAMB portal without delay,” the statement added.

Responding to a concern raised by an X user, who asked about results uploaded before the implementation of verification, JAMB maintained its position, advising: “You’re advised to please visit any of our accredited facilities to verify your result. Thank you.”

With this new directive, candidates are expected to promptly revisit accredited JAMB centres nationwide to re-upload their final WAEC results to ensure smooth processing of their admission status.
