The President of the Association, George Ebong, in a statement on Friday, said the FCTA under Wike had met their demands.

On Wednesday, the doctors grounded all FCTA-owned hospitals in Abuja over unpaid arrears and other demands.

However, in an update on Friday, Ebong revealed that its members had started receiving alerts of the 6-month salary arrears.

He also said Wike had approved and ordered immediate payment of the accoutrement allowance that was owed, approval of the medical residency bonding to 2 years, approval of the immediate employment of doctors and allied health workers to cushion the severe shortage of manpower, and approval and immediate payment of locum doctors and other health workers that were owed.

Ebong therefore noted that with the intervention by Wike, doctors in the FCT are requested to resume work today, 25 January 2025.

He added that the intervention had ended the impending indefinite shutdown of hospitals in Abuja.

Ebong, however, urged the minister to meet other of its demands to avert future action.

Striking resident doctors in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, have blasted the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for neglecting health facilities and workers’ welfare in the nation’s capital, Abuja.

Speaking to journalists, the President of resident doctors in the FCT, George Ebong, said though Wike has been busy fixing roads, he has abandoned government-owned health institutions in the nation’s capital with many in deplorable condition.

He added they feel that they are the human abandoned project, saying no matter the things he does by fixing roads and bridges, the hospitals are the very first point of innovation and rehabilitation. He said they are hallowed ground and Wike cannot neglect them.

The doctors began a three-day warning strike on Wednesday over unpaid salaries, and allowances, among others after the expiration of a three-week ultimatum issued earlier.

The development grounded activities at government hospitals in Abuja from Wuse to Asokoro, Maitama, Kubwa, Zuba, Kwali, Abaji, Nyanya, and others.

According to Ebong, doctors sometimes don’t have electricity to work, with no drugs in hospitals and no sufficient manpower.and complained that only one doctor man some hospitals in Abuja.

Ebong said many doctors have not been paid their six months’ salaries despite working hard and taking on the responsibilities of four or more persons.

He urged the minister to please try to ensure that all the wages are paid and to please visit all the hospitals and see the state in which the hospitals are at the moment.
