Sani disclosed this after an investigative report that revealed the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, disowned the Bachelor of Science degree certificate in the possession of the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Uche Nnaji, saying the politician did not complete his studies at the institution and was never issued a certificate.

Citing court documents filed before Justice Hauwa Yilwa of the Federal High Court in Abuja, the report claimed that Nnaji also admitted that UNN never issued him a degree certificate.

It said the minister instituted a suit against the Minister of Education, the National Universities Commission (NUC), the University of Nigeria, its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Simon Ortuanya, the Registrar, a former Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oguejiofor Ujam, and the university’s Senate.

The court granted three of Nnaji’s prayers, including an order compelling the university and its officials to release his academic transcript, but declined to issue an injunction against the defendants.

Reacting to the development in a post via his X handle, Sani cautioned political office seekers against making false claims about their academic qualifications.

He wrote, “All you need to contest elections or for political appointment is a secondary school certificate. There is no way in the realm of politics one can claim any unearned qualifications without his or her political opponents digging into the matter. Some troubles are unnecessarily self-inflicted.”

Sani, in a post via his official X handle said it would be extremely difficult to defeat the former vice president in a party primary.

He wrote, “His Excellency the Waziri reportedly said he would step aside if a younger candidate wins the primaries… The keyword here is PRIMARIES… It’s easier for a camel to pass through the hole of a needle than to beat the Waziri in primaries. Party delegates are a special breed of people.”

In an interview, Atiku stated that he would withdraw from the race and support a younger candidate if he was defeated in the ADC primaries, pledging his support for the winner.

“If I run for office, and a young man defeats me, I will accept that. The party we have joined now prioritises youth and women,” Atiku had said.

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party however, could not confirm whether he would contest the presidency again.

“This is only the beginning. Our priority is to establish the party and gain a strong following,” Atiku said.

Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, in a tweet on his official X ,formerly Twitter, handle, made the claim, raising concerns about the Saudi authorities tightening visa rules.

However, NAHCON’s Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Fatima Usara, denied the claims, noting that neither the Saudi or Nigerian authorities had a record of such persons.

Senator Sani’s claim comes days after President Bola Tinubu sacked the former Chairman of the Hajj commission, Jalal Arabi, over alleged mismanagement and diversion of  N90bn Hajj subsidy funds provided by the government.

Reports say that 51,477 pilgrims from Nigeria attended the recently concluded Hajj exercise in Jeddah and Mina, after paying a total of N6.9m to perform the religious exercise.

While the inaugural flight for the 2024 Hajj exercise departed the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Kebbi with 422 pilgrims on May 15, 2024, the final return flight landed in Ilorin Kwara State, with 286 pilgrims on July 16, 2024.

Senator Sani’s claim would imply that all 600 pilgrims have remained in Saudi Arabia for about six weeks since the end of the pilgrimage exercise.

Meanwhile, a former Grand Kadi in the the Kwara State Sharia Court of Appeal, Justice Abdullahi Haroon ,retd., has urged the Federal Government to ensure a thorough probe of the N90bn Hajj subsidy mismanagement.

The retired jurist said as a guest of the King of Saudi Arabia during the just concluded Hajj rites, some pilgrims confided in him that they were paid $200 instead of $500 as a travelling allowance.
