Meanwhile, the management of Fresh FM confirmed that the blaze caused severe damage to key facilities. According to Samson Akindele, Group Head of Corporate Affairs at Fresh FM Nigeria and Yinka Ayefele Limited, the studios of Fresh 105.9 FM and its sister station, Blast 98.3 FM, were “badly burnt” alongside nearby offices, the newsroom, and the transmitter and server room.

“We are sad to inform the public that the Head Office of Fresh FM Nigeria, Challenge–Ibadan, was razed by a devastating fire incident on Friday evening, August 15, 2025,” Akindele said in a statement. “Despite efforts to contain the fire with in-house extinguishers, the magnitude of the inferno overwhelmed our capacity before professional firefighters arrived.”

He noted that the full extent of the damage is yet to be determined, while the cause of the fire also remains unknown.

The management expressed appreciation to residents, passersby, and officials of the Oyo State Fire Service who responded promptly to help contain the fire.

In the same vein, the OY-RAAMP Coordinator, Adeola Ekundayo, explained that “the N3.5 billion allocation covers N1,227,196,608.81 for the Aare Alasa market upgrade, N1,219,954,792.90 for the Oja-Agbe market upgrade, N1,042,800,042.63 for the Oja-Oba market improvement.”

She noted that the Agro-Logistics component of RAAMP is strategically designed to enhance rural market infrastructure, ensure better linkage to rural roads, reduce post-harvest losses, and improve the accessibility of farm produce.

The contractors awarded for each project site include Quicbond Nigeria Ltd– Aare Alasa Market, Ona-Ara LGA, Lee Fakino Nigeria Ltd– Oja-Agbe Market, Iseyin LGA, AB-Bond Habitat Ltd– Oja-Oba Market, Ibarapa Central LGA

Oyelade said after extensive consultations and traditional divinations by the Oyomesi, the Oyo kingmakers, Owoade was recommended as the new Alaafin of Oyo and subsequently approved by Governor Makinde.

However, five prominent kingmakers in Oyo town rejected Owoade’s appointment.

The protesting kingmakers include the Basorun of Oyo, High Chief Yusuf Akinade; the Lagunna of Oyo, High Chief Wakeel Akindele; the Akinniku of Oyo, High Chief Hamzat Yusuf; a warrant chief representing the Asipa of Oyo, Chief Wahab Oyetunji; and a warrant chief representing the Alapinni of Oyo, Chief Gbadebo Mufutau.

The kingmakers argued that Prince Lukman Gbadegesin was the rightful Alaafin-elect, citing ongoing legal proceedings concerning the selection process.

In a letter signed by their legal counsel, Kunle Sobaloju, SAN, they described the governor’s actions as illegal and urged the suspension of the process until the matter was resolved in court.

In a statement issued by his press secretary, Alli Ibraheem, Oba Akanbi described Owoade’s rise as a divine act, affirming it to be in accordance with God’s will.

Makinde, in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, will present the budget estimate to the lawmakers at an event scheduled to take place at the House of Assembly Complex, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, the state capital.

According to reports, PDI is the research arm of PDP established in 2000 to promote a new democratic culture in Nigeria and Africa through the provision of value-added education, training, capacity building, research, and documentation programmes.
