The Nigerian Police Force has recorded a significant operational breakthrough with the arrest of two notorious bandits and kidnapping kingpins linked to various violent crimes across Katsina, Zamfara, Niger, and Kwara States.

According to a statement signed by the Force spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, the operation was carried out by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID–IRT), attached to Kwara State.

The statement reads, “A covert operation carried out in collaboration with operatives of the Kwara State Police Command, intercepted and arrested two members of a dangerous banditry and kidnapping gang along the Komen–Masallaci axis in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.”

“The suspects arrested are Abubakar Usman, alias Siddi ‘m’, aged 26, and Shehu Mohammadu, alias Gide ‘m’, aged 30. Both suspects were arrested in Komen–Masallaci village, Kaiama LGA of Kwara State at the time of arrest.”

The Nigeria Police Force recalled that one of the suspects, Abubakar Usman (alias Siddi), was recently identified as the individual seen in a viral video flaunting firearms and large sums of money on social media.

It added, “During the operation, the following items were recovered from the suspects: one brand new Honda Ace 125 motorcycle, red in colour, valued at ₦1,850,000.00, which investigations revealed was purchased with proceeds of ransom payments; ₦500,000.00 cash, being unspent ransom money; one AK-47 rifle with a magazine loaded with 20 rounds of live ammunition.”

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are members of a notorious banditry and kidnapping gang terrorising communities across Zamfara, Katsina, Niger and Kwara States, with further findings indicating that the gang also doubles as suppliers of arms and ammunition to armed groups.

“Both suspects are currently cooperating with investigators to enable the arrest of other members of the syndicate and recovery of additional weapons,” the statement concluded.

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has reacted to the Nigerian Police Force’s plan to resume the strict enforcement of the suspended tinted glass permit policy.

The President of the NBA, Afam Osigwe, in a statement, accused the police of disregarding the rule of law.

“A press release dated 15th December 2025, issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, announcing the reactivation of the enforcement of the suspended tinted glass permit policy with effect from 2nd January 2026, has once again confirmed the sad reality that the Nigeria Police Force, despite being the foremost law enforcement agency in Nigeria, continues to exhibit a troubling disregard for the rule of law and the due process it is constitutionally mandated to uphold.

“The press release not only amounts to executive recklessness but also portrays the Nigeria Police Force and its leadership as lacking in respect for the court, the rule of law, and due process of law,” the NBA said.

Recall that the Force announced through its Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, that the enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy would resume in January, citing a surge in vehicle-related crimes.

Hundeyin said the decision “follows a careful review of emerging security concerns and the need to ensure the safety of all citizens.”

The Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command has arrested three individuals suspected of being involved in car theft in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The arrests followed a report by a Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, officer regarding a stolen vehicle, prompting a special police team to launch an investigation.

According to the statement released by the command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the breakthrough in their ongoing efforts to tackle car theft and organized crime in the state. The operation led to the recovery of the stolen vehicle and the arrest of three suspects involved in its illicit sale.

According to Iringe-Koko, the investigation began after an FRSC officer from the Rivers State Sector Command reported the theft of a vehicle. The officer presented documents, including a sales agreement and proof of ownership, which helped the police trace the stolen car.

On November 7, 2025, at around 8:00 a.m., a joint team of operatives from the Electronic Central Motor Registry (ECMR) and the Special Operations and Intelligence Team (SOIT) successfully recovered the stolen Toyota Corolla, bearing registration number PHC 626 TX. The vehicle’s engine number is IZZ997375, and the chassis number is 2T1BR32E44C280137. The team also arrested three suspects involved in the suspicious sale of the car.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Christian Ihuigwe, John Ebus, and Barnabas, all residents of Port Harcourt. Following their arrest, the suspects and the recovered vehicle were transferred to the Special Investigation Department for further forensic analysis, in line with directives from the Commissioner of Police.

The Rivers State Police Command is continuing its efforts to apprehend additional suspects believed to be involved in the crime. Updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.

The arrested suspects are expected to face prosecution once the investigation is completed.

The PDP headquarters at Wadata Plaza on Wednesday, was covered with barbed wire been used to create a barricade around the premises, preventing public access. The area remained under heavy security, though only a small contingent of police officers was visible.

None of the leaders from the rival factions were seen at the secretariat. However, a prominent figure from the faction led by Kabiru Turaki strongly opposed the police’s decision to seal off the building. The official, who wished to remain anonymous, vowed that the Turaki-led group would continue to operate from the secretariat, insisting that “no one can stop them.”

The dispute within the party escalated on Tuesday when rival groups clashed at the PDP secretariat. Tensions soared as security personnel were deployed to the scene, with supporters of Samuel Anyanwu and other members loyal to Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Minister Nyesom Wike insisting they would not vacate the premises.

The situation turned chaotic when Turaki, alongside other high-ranking members of the PDP, including Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, arrived at the headquarters. As they attempted to enter the secretariat, Anyanwu’s supporters blocked their path, leading to confrontations and the use of tear gas by the police.

“If we had not exercised restraint, there would have been bloodshed today,” Turaki said in an address to the press. “We were tear-gassed, with more than 50 canisters fired at us, but we stayed resolute and will continue to push forward.”

Later that day, Turaki declared that he had assumed office as the national chairman of the PDP, following the tense standoff at the party’s headquarters. “For the past seven hours, Nigerians have witnessed the struggle we have been engaged in with the renegade members of our party who were expelled during our national convention in Ibadan,” Turaki said.

“We anticipated that these individuals, along with their armed thugs, would attempt to disrupt our meetings,” he continued. “However, by God’s grace, we were able to contain the situation, and now we have successfully removed them from the secretariat. As you can see, I have entered my office and assumed leadership as the elected chairman.”

The ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP remains unresolved, with both factions claiming control of the party. The situation continues to develop, with further confrontations expected as the party grapples with its internal power struggle.

The swift intervention of officers from the Sakura Division led to the arrest of suspects attempting to invade a residence in the Araromi community, located off the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Expressway.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, the police received a distress call from the Chairman of the Okearedi Community Development Council, CDC, about suspicious activities involving suspected robbers. The alert prompted a rapid response by local officers.

The statement reads, “At approximately 1:45 a.m. on November 12, a distress call was received from the CDC Chairman of Okearedi, reporting that five armed hoodlums were attempting to forcibly enter a residence in the community.”

Upon the arrival of the police, the suspects fled the scene, abandoning their vehicle, a black Lexus GS 350 with the registration number OGUN TTD 452 TT—at the entrance of the community. A search of the vehicle uncovered fireworks, believed to have been intended as a distraction during the robbery attempt.

“The hoodlums abandoned their operational vehicle and fled in different directions when they saw the police patrol team. The vehicle was later recovered, and fireworks (commonly known as ‘knockouts’) were found inside, likely intended to divert attention or create confusion during the robbery,” the statement continued.

Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, praised the officers for their prompt and professional response to the distress call. He also reassured the public that the command is intensifying its efforts to secure the state, particularly during the end-of-year period.

“We have strengthened our operational strategy by deploying officers to key flashpoints across the state as part of our security measures for the upcoming festive season. The commissioner urged members of the public to remain vigilant, especially when returning home late at night, and advised that residents take simple precautions such as ensuring that their homes and neighborhoods are well-lit.

The Ogun State Police Command also encouraged residents to stay informed by following its official social media channels for real-time security updates and alerts.

In a joint operation, 15 young women, aged 20 to 26, were rescued from an apartment in Alagbaka, Akure, where they had been subjected to exploitation.

According to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, Olushola Ayanlade, confirmed the operation and the arrest of one Jayeola Joshua, along with two accomplices. The rescue mission was carried out by the Police Special Weapons and Tactics, SWAT, unit, with ongoing efforts to capture other members of the criminal group.

According to Ayanlade, the syndicate had been luring women from across Nigeria with promises of well-paying jobs, including domestic work, ushering services, and overseas placements. However, once the women were brought to Akure, they were manipulated into participating in illicit activities, including sending nude photos and videos to clients seeking sexual services.

“Further investigation revealed that the women were coerced into creating explicit content, which was then shared with clients involved in the procurement of sexual services,” Ayanlade said. “The leader of the syndicate, who was identified as Joshua, allegedly received the largest share of the proceeds, with the operation disguised as the creation of ‘relationship content’ for social media.”

The victims have since been taken to the Police Hospital in Akure for medical care, psychological support, and counseling. Ayanlade added that the apartment where the women were held had been rented specifically for trafficking activities, prompting the police to invite the landlord for questioning.

The police have also issued a warning to parents and guardians, urging them to carefully verify job offers and recruitment agents before allowing their children or wards to travel. This case highlights the dangers posed by such criminal syndicates preying on vulnerable individuals seeking legitimate opportunities.

The announcement was made by Enugu Governor Peter Mbah, who chairs the National Economic Council, NEC, ad-hoc Committee on the overhaul of security training institutions. Mbah revealed the news during an on-the-spot inspection of the facilities in Lagos.

Governor Mbah, accompanied by Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, former Inspector General of Police Alkali Usman Baba, who also serves as the Committee Secretary, and Assistant Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu of the Special Protection Unit, SPU, said the committee has been given 30 days to submit a comprehensive report to the NEC for further action.

Mbah emphasized that President Tinubu is deeply concerned about the dilapidated state of the training facilities, noting that these institutions are currently tasked with preparing security personnel who are expected to uphold human dignity and protect citizens’ rights.

The President’s directive, issued during the October 23 NEC meeting, underscored the urgent need for modernization. According to Mbah, the current state of the training institutions “does not align with President Tinubu’s vision of growing Nigeria’s economy to one trillion dollars in the next five years.”
