The Federal High Court in Ibadan has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party National Convention held on November 15, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The court also barred Kabiru Turaki and others from presenting themselves as national officers of the party, dealing a significant blow to the faction that emerged from the convention.

Despite internal disputes within the party, the PDP went ahead with its highly anticipated two-day 2025 Elective National Convention at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba, Ibadan. Tagged #Ibadan2025, the convention attracted thousands of party delegates, leaders, and supporters.

The court’s decision follows ongoing leadership disputes within the PDP, which have led to competing factions and legal battles over the party’s national leadership and internal processes.

Reacting to the ruling in a statement posted on the PDP’s X handle, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, said the PDP is awaiting the final pronouncement of the appellate courts, which it believes will uphold its position.

The statement urged members to remain calm and resolute, insisting there is “absolutely no cause for alarm.” It added that the rebirth movement remains firmly on course.

“Notwithstanding this judgment, the Kabiru Turaki–led Peoples Democratic Party, which emerged from the Ibadan Convention, remains legally intact and unshaken as we await the authoritative pronouncement of the appellate courts,” the statement said.

“We therefore urge our members to remain resolute and committed, as there is absolutely no cause for alarm. The rebirth movement remains firmly on course.”

As the case progresses to the appellate court, party members and supporters will be closely watching for a definitive ruling that could shape the direction of the PDP ahead of upcoming political engagements.

A former Deputy Governor of Ondo State and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the November 2024 governorship election, Agboola Ajayi, has returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ajayi formally rejoined the ruling party at his hometown, Apoi Ward 2, Kiribo, in Ese Odo Local Government Area.

A former member of the House of Representatives, Ajayi had, in June 2020, resigned his membership of the APC and defected to the PDP, citing irreconcilable differences between him and the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, under whom he served as deputy.

Speaking in Igbekebo, the headquarters of Ese Odo Local Government Area, Ajayi pledged full support for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s “EASE” agenda and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He described his return as a move back to his original political home, which would enable him to actively participate in the party’s affairs and contribute to progressive development in the state.

According to him, “In politics, there could be disagreements, campaigns, propaganda and blackmail, but at the end of the day, the bigger picture is the Nigeria project. We must come together to add value to the system.

“Myself and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa have talked. We campaigned against each other, and during campaigns, blackmail and propaganda are not unusual. However, when we look beyond those things, we realise that the bigger picture is greater than all of us.

“This is about the Nigeria project. We should come together to see how we can add value to the system. I also want to commend Mr President for the bold steps and reforms he has introduced in the country.

“He has been able to establish and lay a solid foundation. No president will come and say he wants to cancel those policies again,” Ajayi noted.

The Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Professor Ngozi Odu, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

This was contained in a statement issued in Port Harcourt by the Head of the Press Unit, Office of the Deputy Governor, Owupele Benebo, and made available to the newsmen.

Odu’s defection comes more than a month after Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the majority of state and federal lawmakers from Rivers State left the PDP for the APC.

She completed her registration formalities on Sunday at Akabuka, Ward 8, Unit 11 in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of the state. She thereafter undertook the tour of the six zones of the LGA to sensitise the people on the ongoing APC e-registration exercise.

Addressing stakeholders shortly after her registration, Odu explained that the APC’s e-registration exercise was ongoing following Fubara’s declaration of his decision to join the party a few weeks ago.

She also urged residents of the area to demonstrate their support for President Bola Tinubu and the governor by registering massively with the APC.

“The move is to further strengthen the support base of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Siminalayi Fubara,” she said, noting that six zonal meetings had already been held to facilitate the plan.

“Today, I came to sensitise the people, and everywhere we went, there were large crowds who came out to receive us. They said wherever I go, they will go with me; and wherever Governor Fubara and President Tinubu go, they will go.

“You can see the joy and happiness. I have touched all the six zones — Egi, Omoku, Osomini, Igburu, Egbema and Ndoni,” Odu added.

Odu described the development as a boost to the APC strength in the LGA, adding that it is a sign of increasing grassroots alignment with the leadership of President Tinubu and Governor Fubara.

The statement further said a major highlight of the tour was the defection of hundreds of Labour Party members in Ndoni to the APC, all of whom expressed delight at joining the party fold.

The National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Taminu Turaki, has expressed the party’s readiness to reclaim power in Nigeria, setting its sights on the upcoming off-season governorship elections in Osun and Ekiti States.

Turaki made the statement after a closed-door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his Presidential Library residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

During the meeting, Turaki paid tribute to Chief Obasanjo and the founding members of the PDP, emphasizing that the party is more determined than ever to regain its influence in Nigeria’s political landscape.

“We are here today to thank Obasanjo for his visionary leadership and contributions to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy during his time in office. His role in building strong institutions continues to benefit the nation today,” Turaki said. “We also came seeking his guidance and inspiration to help us navigate the challenges ahead.”

Turaki was accompanied by a powerful delegation, including former Senate President and Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) Adolphus Wabara, former Governors Muazu Babangida Aliyu (Niger State) and Jonah Jang (Plateau State), former Oyo State Deputy Governor Taofeek Arapaja, and Ogun State PDP Chairman Abayomi Tella.

“We are all here to learn from Baba’s wisdom,” Turaki remarked. “As the proverb goes, a woman who began cooking before you must surely have more broken pots. Today, we have been enriched by Baba’s guidance and are more determined than ever to reclaim power in 2027.”

Looking ahead, Turaki outlined the party’s strategy for the 2027 general elections, beginning with a focus on reclaiming Ekiti and Osun States in the upcoming off-season polls.

“PDP is battle-ready for 2027,” Turaki declared. “We will first reclaim Ekiti, followed by Osun. Once we win these two states, it will be clear to everyone that the PDP is on the rise and ready to challenge the APC government’s incompetence.”

He also stressed the importance of unity within the party, noting that the PDP has emerged from its recent convention in Ibadan stronger and more united than ever.

“We are not just ready for 2027; we are prepared to take our rightful place in Nigeria’s democracy,” he said. “The APC is more worried than ever before. The political equation has shifted, and PDP is ready to send them packing.”

Ogun State PDP Chairman Abayomi Tella echoed Turaki’s optimism, describing the visit as a “new dawn” for the party. “Party members are excited, and our hope has been rekindled,” Tella said. “The era of past mistakes is behind us. It’s a new dawn, and we are all ready for the future.”

Tella also weighed in on the upcoming 2027 elections, framing it as a battle for the people, not just political parties. “The people of Ogun have seen what’s possible,” he said. “They’ve tasted both the good and the bad, and they understand the difference. With their support, PDP will lead the state in 2027.”

Tella concluded with a firm warning to political opponents: “What happened in 2023 will not repeat itself. We will not allow any manipulation or interference, as we saw in the Remo Federal Constituency by-election in August. We, the indigenes and residents of this state, will not be silenced. Our right to vote and be voted for will be defended in 2027.”

PDP National Chairman Tanimu Turaki (SAN) has denied claims that the party is divided, saying the Peoples Democratic Party remains fully united.

Turaki said this after 29 state chairmen met with the National Working Committee in Abuja and confirmed its authority.

He noted that PDP governors supported the Ibadan convention that produced him and other NWC members for a four-year term.

The PDP National Chairman dismissed the actions of allies of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who insist Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu are still Acting National Chairman and Acting National Secretary.

Turaki said all steps taken by the NWC were done with the support of state chairmen and that their cooperation is key to the party’s success. He stressed that with almost all chairmen present, the idea of a faction “does not hold.”

Sixteen members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaker Martin Amaewhule announced the mass defection during plenary, declaring that he too has left the PDP and is now an APC member.

Amaewhule said his decision was influenced by internal divisions within the PDP and his desire to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he praised for prioritizing national security and showing what he described as significant goodwill toward Rivers State.

He added that steps were underway for the APC to formally issue him a party membership card.

Earlier in the week, the full 32-member assembly passed a vote of confidence in President Tinubu and encouraged him to seek re-election, following a motion moved by House Leader Major Jack.

The political shifts come in the wake of a period of federal emergency rule in Rivers State, imposed due to prolonged instability and a breakdown of governance structures.

The emergency measures included the suspension of the state governor, his deputy, and all assembly members, before ultimately being lifted.
