The Osun Masterminds (TOM), a civil society organization based in Osun, has urged the Federal Government to reconsider its tax policy scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2026, emphasizing that this policy is causing anxiety among citizens.

The Society made this known through its Executive Director, Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli, while speaking with newsmen at this month’s State of the State address, where he noted that there has been a certain conflicting narrative around the policy even from the committee.

The Society also called on the Federal Government to create more palliative programs aimed at cushioning the hardship in the land, adding that they are in support of Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP’s decision to hold states accountable over the removal of the fuel subsidy fund.

While acknowledging the reduction in fuel price, the society also called for intensified efforts towards ensuring petrol price crashes further ease pressure on average citizen.

Not less than 1000 people living with disabilities, widows, and elderly residents of Ejigbo Local Government in Osun State received free food packs from a Food Bank Support Scheme, sponsored by a non-governmental organization, the Tunde Ajao Group (TAG)

The distribution, which was held at Babalola’s Hall, was carried out in the presence of community elders and traditional chiefs.

While speaking with our correspondent, the Team Lead of the Foundation, Tunde Ajao, noted that the gesture was borne out of his genuine love for the masses and a way of giving back to society, decrying any political aspiration.

ALAN, as fondly called by his admirers, added that initiatives like this will cushion economic hardship faced by citizens, while adding that community development should not be left alone for the government.

One of the beneficiaries of the scheme, Issa Wulemotu, who appreciated the sponsor also affirmed that she receives a food pack from the Foundation every month.

Similarly, another beneficiary, Bose Beatrice seized the moment to pray for the ALAN and his team for their selfless service to humanity over the years.

Tunde Ajao Group (TAG) is a non-profit organisation committed to improving health outcomes, promoting gender equality, and supporting vulnerable populations.

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has debunked claims made by the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, that the state’s health system is “moribund.”

Adeleke, in an official statement signed by his spokesperson, Rasheed Olawale, described the claim as “a baseless disinformation attempt” that “only deepened the isolation of the opposition candidate in the minds of the public.”

The statement reads, “It is like the opposition candidate is living in another world because Osun today and from 2024, is number one across the South West in the area of provision of primary health care. When the Ikire man was in government, Osun was nowhere within the 10 digits.

“Over 200 health centres were renovated under my watch and another phase of renovation is presently ongoing. Under the previous government, the APC candidate was part of the committee that mismanaged the 20 million dollar World Bank grant meant for renovation of primary health care centers. Osun won’t return to the days of insensitive leaders,” Adeleke said.

Oyebamiji had earlier, during his acceptance speech after winning the 2026 APC governorship primary, said, “The health system in Osun State is currently moribund; we intend to revitalise it, thereby reducing the need for medical tourism.

“The welfare of the populace and communal peace and progress are paramount to our party, as they foster an environment where opportunity abounds and innovation flourishes.”

Meanwhile, the governor in response detailed key achievements of his administration.

It read, “Unlike the APC government under which Mr Oyebamiji was a key actor, we upgraded hospitals with medical equipment and facilities for proper care. Our scorecards include procurement of modern operating materials for the wards and operating theatres; purchase of digital medical devices, including sphygmomanometers, pulse oximeters, thermometers, and CPAP machines (VAYU models); acquisition of an electrophoresis (Genotype) machine, digital X-ray printer, and automated electronic device to enhance diagnostic capacity; establishment and commencement of renal dialysis services through a Public–Private Partnership arrangement; procurement of air conditioners for clinical units and patient care areas through donor support; establishment of a new theatre pharmacy, providing immediate access to essential drugs and consumables within the surgical complex; and provision of a mini-bus for hospital use and an ongoing project for a 10-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) among others.”

Adeleke concluded that Oyebamiji should be “ashamed of the sordid records of a government under which he was a key player,” noting that Osun’s health sector has become a model, with the state winning the primary health care challenge in both 2024 and 2025.

The media Coordinator of the Osun State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress, Kamorudeen Adabanija, has debunked viral claims that the ADC has adopted a candidate for the 2026 Governorship election in Osun State.

Adabanija, who spoke in an interview on Redio Afinju’s political progamme, Gbagede Oro, clarified that it was the leadership of the Omoluabi caucus that decided to conduct a shadow election where the former speaker of the State House of Assembly, Najeem Salam, was chosen out of the three aspirants who showed interest in the Governorship election under the faction, to represent them at the primaries.

According to him, no one has obtained the form for the primaries of the ADC, to be held on the 15th of December 2025 except Salam.

The media Coordinator, further speaking, discredited the news that the former Secretary to the State Government, Moshood Adeoti, has officially left the party because of the rift between him and the former Speaker, clarifiying that Adeoti did not exit the ADC, but only said he was no longer interested in the Omoluabi faction, even though he is yet to obtain the membership card which makes him an official member of the party.

Adabanija also contered rumors that Salam was just a figure-head for the party primary election and that the Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has been arranged as the party’s candidate at the upcoming gubernatorial election.

The Osun State House of Assembly has approved a new law to regulate how local government bank accounts are opened and managed. The bill aims to improve financial transparency and ensure better control of public funds in all 30 local government areas and area councils.

According to a statement from the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Olamide Tiamiyu, the law is based on the 1999 Constitution, which gives state assemblies the power to make rules on local government finances. The bill is designed to boost accountability, stop financial misuse, and enforce strict financial procedures at the grassroots level.

Under the new rules, only the Directors of Finance and the Directors of Administration and General Services in each council will be allowed to sign and operate local government accounts. Political officeholders and their appointees are banned from being signatories, a move aimed at preventing political influence over council funds.

Speaker Adewale Egbedun said the approved bill will soon be sent to Governor Ademola Adeleke for assent, explaining that once it becomes law, it will help promote financial discipline, strengthen institutions, and improve service delivery across local governments.

Earlier, the Assembly also passed the Islamic and Traditional Marriages (Registration) Bill and the Water Users’ Association (Irrigation) Bill, both aimed at supporting social structures and improving agricultural development in the state.

The Supreme Court has struck out a case filed by the Attorney General of Osun State, Oluwole Jimi-Bada, against the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, over withheld funds belonging to Osun’s 30 local governments.

In a split decision of six justices to one, the court ruled that the Osun Attorney General had no legal right to file the case on behalf of the local governments. The justices held that only the elected and inaugurated local government officials can take such a case to court.

Reading the lead judgment, Justice Mohammed Idris said the Federal Government acted wrongly by stopping the funds, describing the action as a breach of the Constitution.

He added that the money should be paid directly into the local governments’ accounts.

The court also dismissed the AGF’s contempt claim against Osun, stating that the Federal Government was actually more at fault for failing to release the funds.

Justice Idris noted that there was no proof that the local governments asked the Osun Attorney General to represent them, so he should not have filed the suit.

In a minority judgment, Justice Emmanuel Agim said the Osun Attorney General had the right to take the case to court and criticised the Federal Government’s action, saying it could cripple local government operations.

Osun State Government has announced that Governor Ademola Adeleke may no longer be interested in seeking the PDP’s nomination for the 2026 Osun Gubernatorial Election.

The state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Sunday Bisi disclosed this at a press briefing in Osogbo, Osun State.

Speaking on developments relating to the party’s upcoming Governorship primaries, Bisi said the crises ravaging the party have made the conduct of the party’s governorship primary earlier slated for December 2 impossible.

The party, however, said Adeleke’s decision may change with the resolution of crises within the party, which must be recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission and reached within the commission’s timeline for the Osun governorship poll.

In his speech, Bisi affirmed that Adeleke fully complied with all requirements set out in the PDP’s timetable for nomination, adding that he “purchased and submitted the expression of interest and nomination forms within the stipulated window of October 13th to 25th, 2025, being the deadline for submission.”

He further explained that Adeleke appeared before the duly constituted screening committee of the party on October 30, was screened, and cleared without reservations, with the Certificate of Clearance issued to him in accordance with the party’s procedures.

“However, soon after these pre-primary processes were concluded, the internal imbroglio rocking the national leadership of our party escalated.

“The suspension and counter-suspension of key national officers, officers who are statutorily central to the conduct of congresses, primaries, and the transmission of our candidate’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), created a level of uncertainty that directly impacted the planned schedule.

“This crisis reached a point where the statutory ad-hoc ward and local government congresses, scheduled for November 24th and 29th respectively, could not hold.

“These are the very congresses where delegates to the primaries are elected. As you are all aware, the issues leading to these disruptions are presently before various courts across the country,” Bisi said.

He added, “In the light of the foregoing, it has become inevitable, indeed unavoidable, that the PDP governorship primaries earlier slated for Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025, can no longer hold as scheduled.

According to the timetable released by INEC detailing activities towards the August 8 Osun governorship poll, parties fielding candidates have till December 15 to submit the names of their candidates.

A 24-hour curfew has been imposed on Igbajo, Boluwaduro Local Government Area of Osun State, following a disruption of law and order in the community.

The State Governor Ademola Adeleke in a statement signed by the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, oredered the immedaite lockdown of the town until calm is fully restored.

The state government said the unrest, which started on Sunday night and continued into the early hours of Monday, was linked to tensions arising from the death of Prince Adegboyega Famodun, who passed away last week after a brief illness.

Adeleke condemned the violence, saying his administration “will always not be a party to any untoward civil disobedience capable of truncating the existing peace and harmony being currently experienced throughout Osun State, Igbajo inclusive.”

He warned that anyone found instigating or participating in acts capable of worsening the crisis would be made to face the law.

“As a government that believes in total compliance with the rule of engagement in ensuring peace and order at all times, my administration will not fold its arms to allow the breach of law and order anywhere in the state.

The governor directed the Army, Police, Department of State Services and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to commence 24-hour surveillance of the community.

According to reports, Famodun was installed as monarch in 2022 at the twilight of the administration of Adegboyega Oyetola.

He was later removed through an executive order issued by Adeleke, who appointed Oba Ademola Makinde in his place.

However, in January 2025, the Osun State High Court reinstated Oba Famodun, a decision that is currently being challenged on appeal.
