NSCDC Prepares For Christmas, New Year Festivities, Deploys 55,000 Operatives Nationwide

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 55,000 operatives across the country, as part of moves to safeguard citizens and protect critical national assets during the yuletide celebrations.

The deployment, ordered by the Commandant General of the Corps, Ahmed Audi, is targeted at maintaining peace and order throughout the festive period.

Audi explained that the initiative is necessary to strengthen the nation’s security architecture, as “criminal-minded persons utilize festive periods to carry out their sinister and unscrupulous activities.”

He further emphasised that threats arising from banditry, kidnapping, farmer-herder clashes, terrorism, and insurgency could be effectively addressed if citizens adopt a culture of providing “credible and sustained intelligence to concerned security agencies.”

In a statement signed by the NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Babawale Afolabi, Prof. Audi directed all Zonal Commanders to oversee operations within their jurisdictions, while State Commandants are tasked with coordinating Area Commands, Divisional Offices, and other formations.

The operatives, drawn from both covert and overt units, have been strategically deployed to ensure “there would be no breathing space for criminal elements or criminalities within the period.”

FG dismisses 38 senior NSCDC officers for misconduct

No fewer than 38 senior officers, including an Assistant Commandant General, have been dismissed from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps by the Federal Government for various infractions.

The dismissals, approved by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board under the Ministry of Interior, were due to offences including gross misconduct, insubordination, and violation of extant laws.

The Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, Babawale Afolabi, in a statement on Wednesday, said in 2025, a total of “76 senior and junior personnel had various disciplinary measures meted on them to serve as a deterrent to others.”

“As directed by the Civil Defence Correctional Fire and Immigration Service Board, disciplinary action have been meted out on some Senior officers as recommended by the NSCDC Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee: about 38 Senior officers including Assistant Commandant General have been dismissed on account of gross misconduct, insubordination and acts unbecoming of a superior officer according to the Public Service Rules.”

Babawale also outlined the actions taken against junior personnel. “After the sittings of the Junior Staff Disciplinary Committee on about 30 cases involving various degrees of gross misconduct, 20 personnel have been dismissed from the Service, three personnel were demoted by one rank, while seven personnel were issued warning letters as recommended by the NSCDC Junior Staff Disciplinary Committee,” he added.

He further stated that the Commandant General of the Corps, Prof. Ahmed Audi, had expressed the administration’s commitment to revamping and repositioning the corps through training and re-training of its operatives, noting that acts capable of tarnishing the image of the Service would not be tolerated.

He noted that the NSCDC boss had charged all officers and men to remain focused on discharging the corps’s statutory mandate.

NSCDC Arrests Five Suspects for Vandalizing Transformers and Streetlights in Kwara

The suspects, Samson Akintola, Muhammed Zakariya, Mohammed Monsur, Ibrahim Hamida, and Kabir Abubakar were apprehended in a joint operation conducted by NSCDC operatives from the Tanke Division and the Tanke Community Vigilante Group. The arrest took place around 1 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025.

According to a statement from the NSCDC’s Public Relations Officer, Ayoola Shola, the suspects were intercepted while in possession of vandalized transformer and streetlight cables. These cables are believed to have been stolen from the Asa Dam and Sapati areas of Ilorin.

The items recovered from the suspects included damaged transformer cables, streetlight cables, and burnt copper wires.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were involved in the deliberate vandalization and theft of public electrical infrastructure. This is a violation of Section 1(9) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Cap M17, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The suspects are currently in custody, and the NSCDC confirmed they will be charged in court once investigations are concluded. Efforts are also underway to apprehend additional individuals linked to the crime.

The NSCDC’s State Commandant, Umar Mohammed, spoke to newsmen about the arrest, emphasizing the severe consequences of vandalizing public infrastructure. He pointed out that such acts not only hinder development but also contribute to power outages and increased insecurity in affected communities.

“We are committed to protecting all critical national assets and infrastructure in Kwara State, let this serve as a strong warning to others: those caught sabotaging public utilities will face the full wrath of the law.”

The NSCDC remains resolute in its mission to safeguard critical infrastructure and bring those responsible for vandalism and theft to justice.

President Tinubu Declares Emergency on Security Training Institutions

The announcement was made by Enugu Governor Peter Mbah, who chairs the National Economic Council, NEC, ad-hoc Committee on the overhaul of security training institutions. Mbah revealed the news during an on-the-spot inspection of the facilities in Lagos.

Governor Mbah, accompanied by Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, former Inspector General of Police Alkali Usman Baba, who also serves as the Committee Secretary, and Assistant Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu of the Special Protection Unit, SPU, said the committee has been given 30 days to submit a comprehensive report to the NEC for further action.

Mbah emphasized that President Tinubu is deeply concerned about the dilapidated state of the training facilities, noting that these institutions are currently tasked with preparing security personnel who are expected to uphold human dignity and protect citizens’ rights.

The President’s directive, issued during the October 23 NEC meeting, underscored the urgent need for modernization. According to Mbah, the current state of the training institutions “does not align with President Tinubu’s vision of growing Nigeria’s economy to one trillion dollars in the next five years.”

NSCDC Officers Nab Fake Security Operatives in Anambra

The State Commandant, Maku Olatunde, disclosed this while parading the suspects at the command headquarters in Awka.

According to Olatunde, the operation was conducted across several hotels and grocery stores in Awka following credible intelligence reports.

He said, “In a bid to rid Anambra State of individuals masquerading as private security operatives, the NSCDC, Anambra State Command, has apprehended five suspected illegal private security operatives and recovered a pump action rifle during a series of raids conducted in Awka.

He listed the suspects as Mmeka Ekene (43), Peter Detuchi Kelvin (28), Sunday Akpan Idiong (45), Enemuo Ifeanyichukwu (26), and Francis Ugochukwu Nwosu (28).

Olatunde explained that the operation, which was carried out by the Private Guard Companies Department, was aimed at flushing out undesirable elements, criminal gangs, and irredentists, as well as preventing emerging security threats, illegal possession of firearms, and any form of violence or intimidation that could undermine the peaceful conduct of the election.

The Commandant further stressed that the NSCDC would not be swayed by the antics of individuals pretending to be private security operatives in a bid to disrupt the electoral process.

NSCDC Officers Killed in Edo

A senior officer of the command in the state disclosed this, adding that one expatriate, a Chinese national, was kidnapped while four of his compatriots were rescued from their abductors.

The officer added that four persons were injured and were currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital, adding that an official statement would be released at the command headquarters in Abuja.

“Eight of our members were indeed killed by kidnappers, but a statement will be officially released later today in Abuja. The incident happened when the officers were escorting five Chinese expatriates after a routine patrol at the company’s entrance,” the top official added.

Meanwhile, the Commandant, Agun Gbenga, has visited the scene of the crime and the hospital where the injured are being treated.

It was also gathered that joint security operations with sister agencies have commenced, combing the surrounding forest in pursuit of the perpetrators.

NSCDC, NIS, NCoS, FFS announce nationwide recruitment

He urged applicants interested in being employed into the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Nigerian Correctional Service, Nigeria Immigration Service and the Federal Fire Service to apply online through the board’s portal.

“Applications should be submitted online within three weeks from the date of this publication and note that the application is absolutely free,” he stated.

He emphasised that applicants must apply to only one of the four agencies of their choice as multiple applications will automatically call for disqualification.

FG deploys security agents as NLC insists on protest over Telecoms tariff hike

The Private Telecommunications and Communications Senior Staff Association of Nigeria and the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria similarly pushed back against the NLC’s planned boycott of telecom services and shutdown of telecom infrastructure, arguing that such actions are misguided and could harm the industry.

The NSCDC spokesman, Babawale Afolabi, in a chat with journalists said the agency had deployed operatives to the base stations to prevent any illegal action by the protesters.

The NSCDC, tasked with protecting critical national infrastructure, including telecommunications, expressed concerns over the potential risks the NLC action could pose to national security and public safety.

The NLC announced its intention to shut down the operations of telecommunications companies across the country if the tariff hike announced by the Nigerian Communications Commission was not reversed by the end of February.

The union directed Nigerians to boycott the services of major telecom providers, including MTN, Airtel, and Glo, daily between 11am and 2pm starting February 13 and continuing through the month.

The NLC in a communiqué signed by its President, Joe Ajaero and General Secretary, Emma Ugboaja, accused the telecom operators of breaching public trust by implementing the tariff hike before the conclusion of a 10-man review panel’s deliberations.

The union also faulted the government for failing to protect citizens from corporate exploitation.

The NLC argued that the tariff increase represented a betrayal of public trust, given the earlier agreement to establish a committee to review the proposed hike.

However, the NSCDC urged the NLC to reconsider its planned protest, warning that any disruption to telecom services could expose the country to criminal activities and compromise national security.

Afolabi made it clear that the agency will not allow any action that could jeopardise the security of the nation.

He revealed that state commandants had been directed to maintain round-the-clock surveillance at telecom facilities, with a nationwide deployment of officers, including undercover operatives, to ensure the protection of these assets.

Citing the importance of telecommunications to national security, the corps warned that any disruption could result in vandalism and other criminal activities.

Osun: Lifeless body discovered under Okefia flyover

The circumstances surrounding the presence of the body at the location remained unclear, but eyewitnesses revealed that the man was found partially unclad.

A trader in the area, Chibuzor, revealed that the body was first noticed around midday.

He said the revelation prompted concerned individuals to alert security personnel to investigate the situation further.

He added that personnel of the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, swiftly responded to the call.

The NSCDC personnel were soon joined by officials of Osogbo West local government, who collaborated with them to dispose of the body.

A bag containing some clothes was reportedly found lying beside the corpse.

Authorities took note of the surrounding environment and other possible evidence to ascertain the circumstances leading to the man’s death.

The NSCDC Osun Command spokesperson, Adeleke Kehinde said the Command was investigating the case thoroughly.

She also said that officials of the local government were immediately contacted upon learning of the development.

Meanwhile, an appeal has been made to tighten security across flyovers in the state.

The appeal was made through a statement by the Executive Director of the World Institute of Peace, WIP, Lamina Omotoyosi.

Omotoyosi suggested that having the flyovers secured will prevent crimes and criminals from taking over the areas.

NSCDC nabs 4 men for alleged rape of minors in Osun

The suspects, Sadiq Opeyemi, 30 years old, Afeez Olalekan, 26 years old, Ismail Ibrahim, 30 years old, and Abdulahi Garba, 33 years old, were arrested on December 3 in Iwo, Iwo Local Government Area of the state.

Parading the suspects in Osogbo, the state capital, the NSCDC Commandant in Osun, Igbalawole Sotiyo said they defiled the two minors who were 13 years of age respectively.

According to him, the suspects lured the girls with N500 and slept with them on many occasions, adding that the perpetrators confessed to the crime.

The commandant, who noted that the girls were living with their grandparents, said that they fell to the tactics of the suspects while looking for survival.

The suspects while speaking with newsmen admitted that they actually slept with the girls at different times and places after giving them money.
