Speaking at the party’s National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja, Kwankwaso said the NNPP was thriving, particularly in Kano and other parts of the country. “We are very happy about that. We have our party, and we are comfortable,” he stated.

Addressing speculation about a potential move ahead of the 2027 elections, Kwankwaso insisted that any political negotiations would be a collective decision. “If there will be any negotiation, it will not be for only a few; it will be for the entire NNPP family,” he said.

He cautioned members against being influenced by politicians defecting to other parties, suggesting that such individuals lacked experience and understanding.

Reflecting on past political experiences, Kwankwaso recalled losing the Kano governorship in 2003 despite being an incumbent, attributing it to the wave of support for former President Muhammadu Buhari. He noted that he returned to power eight years later, describing the setback as a valuable lesson.

National Chairman Dr Ajuji Ahmed described NNPP as “the beautiful bride of Nigerian politics,” urging citizens to register for their permanent voter cards ahead of the next election cycle.

Also speaking, Kano State Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo, representing Governor Abba Yusuf, accused opponents of attempting to undermine the party’s recent electoral wins but expressed confidence in reclaiming the alleged stolen mandates.

The party also announced the appointment of caretaker committees for Kogi, Gombe, Taraba, and Jigawa states, along with the extension of the Lagos State chairman’s tenure.

The meeting was attended by NEC-elected officials and an INEC observer team.

Speaking at a campaign rally, Governor Yusuf highlighted his administration’s achievements in education, healthcare, and youth and women empowerment. He noted the construction of classrooms, sponsorship of students for local and international studies, and the empowerment of thousands of women with ₦50,000 monthly start-up capital.

“In just two years, we’ve significantly improved lives across these communities,” Yusuf stated. “Don’t allow a return to the poor governance of the past.”

He announced key projects in the 2025 state budget, including a major road linking Mashatsa, Gwarzo, Shanono, and Tanyawa, the upgrade of Shanono Hospital to a general hospital, and water supply pipelines for the constituency.

The governor urged voters to elect NNPP candidates Ali Kiyawa (Bagwai/Shanono) and Yusuf Maigado (Ghari/Tanyawa) to ensure continuity of “people-oriented governance.”

Party leaders, including the deputy governor, NNPP state chairman, and local government chairpersons, echoed the call, asking voters to reject the APC’s previous “wasteful years” and support NNPP’s development agenda.

The NNPP State Chairman, Armaya’u Abdulkadir, stated this in a statement issued in Katsina.

According to the NNPP chairman, their local government chairmen have not defected to any party in the state.

He added that their attention has been drawn to some publications made in some media organisations and circulated in the social media.

Abdulkadir said, “The attention of the NNPP Katsina chapter has been drawn to some publications made in some media organisations and circulated in the social media.

“The publication revealed that 34 NNPP local government chairmen have defected to the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

“The defection, as it was reported, was through the former Secretary to the state government, Mustapha Inuwa in Katsina State.

“It is on record, however, that some of our chairmen, after the 2023 presidential elections, defected to the All Progressive Congress, APC.
“Thus, these same people are the ones that defected to the ADC from the APC. Therefore, their defection was from APC, not from NNPP.”

Report has it that the election is being held across the 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas, LCDAs, in the state.

The NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Ogini Olaposi, said the decision was regrettable but necessary, citing limited options available to the party at the time.

“We regret to inform all members of our great party that it is indeed most unfortunate and regrettable that despite the double victory judgments we received, we could not put our house in order for effective campaigns and participation,” he stated.

The party’s spokesman added that the setbacks made it impossible for the NNPP to field candidates for the local government election, a first since the party was founded and registered in 2001 by Boniface Aniebonam.

Olaposi pointed out that there was nothing so much to worry about, as issues of logo and leadership had been resolved.

Court stops FG from tampering with funds of 44 Local Governments in Kano https://afinjufm.com/court-stops-fg-from-tampering-with-funds-of-44-local-governments-in-kano/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=court-stops-fg-from-tampering-with-funds-of-44-local-governments-in-kano https://afinjufm.com/court-stops-fg-from-tampering-with-funds-of-44-local-governments-in-kano/#respond Mon, 17 Feb 2025 14:22:46 +0000 https://afinjufm.com/?p=8873 A Kano State High Court has ruled that the Federal Government should not tamper with the funds belonging to the 44 local governments of the state.

The post Court stops FG from tampering with funds of 44 Local Governments in Kano appeared first on Afinju FM.

The ruling was delivered by Justice Musa Karaye after the review of the evidence presented by the Local Government representatives.

The opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, had initially sought a court order to stop the disbursement of funds to the Local Governments, alleging irregularities in the elections conducted by the State’s electoral commission in October 2024.

Earlier, the court had issued an interim order directing the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, the Federation Account Allocation Committee, FAAC, the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, and all commercial banks not to tamper with the funds until the case was concluded.

Bashir Wuzirchi, who represented the 44 local governments in the case, while speaking to journalists after the ruling, said they filed the case to protect Kano State from forces attempting to obstruct development by targeting the local governments.

It remains uncertain whether the opposition party will appeal the decision.

The NNPP and APC remain locked in a fierce political rivalry in Kano State as they seek to win public support ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Obi made this clarification  when he held a press conference in Abuja on the state of the nation.

He rallied all lovers of Nigeria in the political space to come together in 2027 and defeat the All Progressives Congress, APC, which he accused of mismanaging the country’s resources.

He also described the security situation in the country as unfortunate, saying Nigerians die needlessly due to banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping-for-ransom.

According to him, the level of corruption in Nigeria remained high, and also is the cost of governance which has led to an astronomical increase in public debt under the current administration of President Bola Tinubu of the APC.

Obi added that government officials mismanaged public funds in 2024 through incessant foreign travels.

In Akure, the state capital, Acting National Secretary of the party, Ogini Sunday, expressed strong disapproval of the replacement of the original candidate, Oluwatosin Ayeni, by followers of Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Ayeni had withdrawn from the race, leading to the nomination of Olugbenga Edema as the party’s new candidate.

NNPP State Chairman Peter Olagookun previously stated that Ayeni’s withdrawal was a strategic move to support a more viable candidacy for the party.

Edema, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress, APC, was officially introduced at a special party meeting in Akure and is now listed on INEC’s portal as the NNPP’s candidate for the November 16 governorship election.

However, Ogini Sunday has declared that Akintan Michael is the party’s legitimate gubernatorial candidate, with Kemi Fasua as his running mate.

He criticized the acceptance of Edema’s nomination, calling Kwankwaso’s supporters fake members and asserting that Kwankwaso is no longer affiliated with NNPP.

The party has taken legal action against INEC for accepting the replacement of the candidate.
