EFCC Arrests E-Money Over Alleged Naira Abuse

Operatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested popular Lagos socialite and businessman, Emeka Daniel, popularly called E-Money, for allegedly misusing the Naira notes.

Sources within the commission said that the socialite is facing allegations of Naira abuse and the defacement of foreign currencies, linked to his alleged act of spraying US dollars—an offence under Nigeria’s Foreign Exchange Act.

The alleged currency spraying reportedly took place at a social event in Lagos, although specific details of the occasion remain undisclosed.

The EFCC stated it has commenced preliminary investigations and plans to charge E-Money to court upon conclusion of its inquiry.

Naira abuse: EFCC nabs woman in Gombe

The suspect, Janty Emmanuel, was arrested by investigators from the anti-graft’s Gombe Zonal Command.
EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale who disclosed this in a statement said she was arrested on Monday, May 20, 2024 following intelligence that spotted her spraying Naira notes at a social event.
The anti-graft agency has, of recent, clamped down on Nigerians abusing the local currency, including prominent figures. Among them is Bobrisky who was on April 12 sentenced to six months imprisonment without an option of fine for abusing the Nigerian currency.
Also, the commission clamped down on socialite, Pascal Okechukwu, aka Cubana Chief Priest, over alleged naira abuse but the two parties opted to settle out of court.
