The leadership of the unions’ Jigawa State chapters disclosed this while speaking at the town hall meetings held on Monday at the Banquet Hall, Government House Dutse.

The meeting aimed to discuss how to join hands with critical stakeholders to tackle economic challenges and advise people not to become agents of national destruction.

According to them, the state government is doing its best to alleviate the suffering of the common man; therefore, the planned mass protest has no basis in Jigawa State.

They explained that the state government has initiated various empowerment programmes that are touching the lives of the masses at the grassroots level, including FADAMA CARES.

State Commissioner of Police, CP A.T. Abdullahi, noted that  Jigawa is the most peaceful state in the nation, therefore, there is a need to maintain the tempo.

He explained that most protests are being hijacked by criminals who don’t want good for the country.

The protest was reportedly due to a parliamentary debate and vote on the controversial law.
According to a lawyer representing the family, the man was shot in the leg by police and died as a result of massive blood loss. The man was not given immediate health attention for more than 20 minutes.

One of the protest leaders called for people to come on Friday to the morgue of the hospital where the deceased lay in a show of solidarity with his parents.

The human rights organisation, Amnesty International reported that at least 200 people had been injured during Thursday’s protests in Nairobi alone.

Given the new tax law, many Kenyans fear that their cost of living will rise to an almost unmanageable level.  Entrepreneurs and business owners also fear significant losses due to declining purchasing power.
