The three-member panel of the Appeal court led by Justice Yargata Nimpar unanimously ruled in Aiyedatiwa’s favour.

It affirmed the decision of the lower Ondo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal which earlier validated the governor’s victory in the November 16, 2024 election.

The Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its governorship candidate in the election, Agboola Ajayi, to affirm Governor Aiyedatiwa’s election.

The Justice Nimpar led panel of the appellate court dismissed Mr Agboola’s appeal, describing it as devoid of merit.

Ajulo emphasised that the move was part of efforts to strengthen security and ensure the safety of residents across the state. The state has recently battled incessant cases of kidnapping, with most of the victims killed and huge ransoms paid by the victims’ families.

He further emphasised that kidnapping and cultism have become major threats to safety and public order. He maintained that strengthening relevant legal frameworks would help deter such crimes and improve the overall security landscape.

The state’s chief legal officer further stressed that proposals would soon be transmitted to the House of Assembly for necessary legislative action, including sentencing convicted kidnappers to death.

The statement disclosed that the names of the nominees have been forwarded to the state House of Assembly for confirmation.

It was contained that the nomination was conveyed in a letter addressed to Speaker of the House, Olamide Oladiji on Thursday.

The nominees are; Igbekele Ajibefun, Ayorinde Olawoye, Ayodele Akande, Alabi Johnson, Amidu Takuro, Adewale Akinlosotu, Idowu Ajanaku and Oluwaseun Osamaye, Tob Loko, Olaolu Akindolire, Sunday Olajide and Omoyofunmi Henry.
