Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, following the recent massacre of more than 100 persons in Woro, Kaiama local government area of Kwara by suspected Boko haram terrorists.

He was received at the Tunde Idiagbon International Airport, Ilorin, by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Senator representing Kwara North, Senator Sadiq Umar, and other state officials.

The vice president is expected to meet with stakeholders, including the village head of Woro, the Emir of Kaiama, local government officials, and security chiefs.

President Bola Tinubu had ordered the immediate deployment of a battalion of soldiers to the troubled spot.

Gunmen suspected to be Boko haram terrorists invaded Woro community, setting it ablaze and killing more than 100 persons.

An unconfirmed number of women and girls were equally abducted. 75 victims were given a mass burial according to Islamic rites. Scores of wounded persons were also taken to hospitals while some of them have been discharged.

United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Gutteres, has condemned the mass slaughter of about 200 people in Kwara State.

The UN chief, in a statement on his X page, said he strongly condemned the attacks that left hundreds dead in Woro and neighbouring communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State. “I strongly condemn the terrorist attack of 3 February, in Kwara State, Nigeria,” Gutteres wrote.

He added, “My heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to the people and Government of Nigeria. I wish a speedy recovery to the injured.”

The massacre of about 200 people in Kwara has sparked reactions across Nigeria, attracting global media attention.

President Bola Tinubu has deployed security agencies to the affected communities.

Amnesty International, condemned the killing of more than 200 people in separate incidents, which occurred on February 3, in Kwara and Katsina States.

“Amnesty International strongly condemns the attacks on rural communities in Kwara and Katsina state on Tuesday 3 February 2026, in which gunmen killed over 200 people. Many of those killed were shot at close range and some were burnt alive.”
