Kaduna Anglican Diocese Confirms Death of Kidnapped Priest

The Kaduna Anglican Diocese has announced the death of Edwin Achi, a priest at Ebenezer Church in Ungwan Maijero, Chikun LGA.

Achi was kidnapped along with his wife, Sarah, and their daughter after armed men attacked their home near the Kaduna refinery.

The church said the news of his death is a painful loss to the entire diocese and praised his faithful service and humble character. It also suspended its annual “Stand Up for Jesus” event in his honour.

Achi’s wife and daughter are still being held by the kidnappers, and the diocese has called for prayers for their safe release.

The incident has added to growing public concern over rising banditry and kidnappings across Nigeria.

Police Nabs 14 Suspected Kidappers, Rescue 23 Victims

This was disclosed in a statement by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer Josephine Adeh, stating that the intelligence-led operation took place at Angwan Adamu Ruga Fulani Zone B, Riverside, Ado Mararaba, Nasarawa State.

The operation followed a report indicating that several foreign nationals had been lured into Nigeria under the pretext of lucrative job offers and upon arrival, they were held hostage by their abductors, who demanded ransom payments from their families via WhatsApp and other online platforms.

FCT police authorities said preliminary investigation revealed that the syndicate is coordinated by one Abubakar Jigiba, a transnational criminal kingpin with known residences in Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Mali, and Nigeria while his younger brother, Sougule Zoubere, handles the recruitment, kidnapping, and smuggling of victims from Mali into Nigeria, where they are detained pending ransom payments.

“Further investigations revealed that the victims were trafficked into the country through illegal border routes in a journey lasting about three days. They were subsequently confined in two fortified two-bedroom apartments under inhumane conditions.

“Acting on actionable digital and reconstructive intelligence, the Scorpion Squad traced the hideout to the above address where a total number of twenty-three (23) victims, comprising fourteen (14) males, eight (8) females, and one (1) child, all unhurt, except one who sustained a minor ear injury and has been taken to the National Hospital, Abuja, for medical attention,” the police said.

FCT Police Foil Kidnap Plot in Byazhin Forest

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the raid followed credible intelligence indicating that a notorious bandit leader, known as Idrisa or “Mai Duna,” was planning coordinated attacks on villages near the Byazhin forest area.

Tactical police teams launched an ambush along suspected routes, leading to a gun battle with the bandits. The attackers were overpowered and fled into the forest with injuries. Reinforcements from police and military units quickly secured the area and blocked escape routes.

Adeh added that the Commissioner of Police commended the operatives for their swift response, which prevented a major security breach. He also urged medical facilities to report anyone with gunshot wounds.

The FCT Police Command has recently stepped up joint operations with military forces and local vigilantes to tackle rising insecurity in border communities, particularly in Bwari, Kuje, and Gwagwalada. Authorities say the success of this operation will help boost public confidence and reassure residents of their safety.

Police Arrest Anambra lover Over Fake Kidnap

In a statement released by the spokesman for the command, Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects, identified as Nmesoma Nwoye, female, aged 23 years, and Chibuike Ogbu, male, aged 24 years, were arrested after intelligence-led operations uncovered that the supposed victim conspired with Chibuike (her boyfriend) to stage her own abduction.

Ikenga said that the suspects initially demanded ₦15million ransom, and after negotiation, ₦3million was transferred into the victim’s account.

He said following the arrest of the suspects, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ikioye Orutugu, expressed deep concern over the rising cases of moral decadence in the society, adding that the suspects were arrested by police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu.

The statement read, “The suspects identified as Nmesoma Josephine Nwoye, female, aged 23 years, and Chibuike Ogbu, male, aged 24 years, were arrested after intelligence-led operations uncovered that the supposed victim conspired with Chibuike (her boyfriend) to stage her own abduction.

“The operatives also recovered the sum of ₦1,200,000, being part of the ransom earlier paid by the girl’s family members, revealing that the suspects demanded ₦15million ransom, and after negotiation, ₦3million was transferred into the victim’s account.

Reacting to the development, CP Orutugu described the incident as a reflection of the rising moral decay in society, where young people are increasingly resorting to criminality for selfish gains.”

According to him, the CP urged parents, guardians, and religious leaders to intensify efforts in inculcating discipline, integrity, and sound values in their children and wards.

“The CP also warned youths against engaging in self-destructive ventures, stressing that the long arm of the law will always catch up with criminals, no matter how cleverly disguised their schemes may be,” the statement added.

Police Confirm TikToker Peller’s Safety Amid Kidnap Investigation

The command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this while speaking on a national television, noting that preliminary checks showed that the content creator was at home and unharmed.

“We are investigating the allegation, but we can confirm that the person in question, Habeeb, popularly known as Peller, is at home safe and sound,” He said.

The police spokesperson also confirmed that the influencer’s properties were safe, including his vehicle and phones.

He further explained that the police were still reviewing the incident to ascertain whether it was a kidnap, a staged abduction, or a false alarm.

The 20-year-old was said to have been whisked away by armed men on his way home while livestreaming on TikTok.

In footage shared widely online, he appeared to mistake the men for security operatives before being taken away.

The social media sensation, who shot to fame in 2021 with his short-form TikTok videos, has since expanded his brand to livestreaming of shows and events.

Teenager Arrested For Allegedly Killing Five-Year-Old Cousin In Enugu

His alleged accomplice, one Sunday Michael, aged 24, a security guard at 9th Mile and a native of the Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area of Adamawa State, was also arrested.

According to report, the suspects were arrested by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad, following intelligence gathered after ransom demands were reported.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, the five-year-old child was earlier reported missing before the incident.

Investigations revealed that the prime suspect used his accomplice to demand ₦1 million ransom from the victim’s father, in an attempt to disguise his identity.

Ndukwe further said that the suspect murdered the child and buried him in a bush near their residence in Okinitor, Amankwo Ngwo, Udi LGA, when the ransom was not met.

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime. The prime suspect thereafter led operatives to the scene, where the victim’s body was exhumed in the presence of medical personnel, including a doctor, who certified the child dead.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has commiserated with the bereaved family and assured them that the suspects will be arraigned upon conclusion of investigations. He reiterates the Command’s unwavering commitment to detecting heinous crimes and ensuring justice,” the PPRO added in the statement.

Former NYSC DG Regains Freedom After 22 Days In Bandits’ Net

A former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Maharazu Tsiga had regained freedom from his kidnappers after spending 22 days in captivity.

A source confirmed to newsmen last night that Tsiga has been released and is receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital for security reasons.

Recall that gunmen led by notorious bandit kingpin Babaro had demanded N250m for Tsiga’s release. But it is unclear if any money was paid for his freedom.

Government officials and security agencies including the Katsina State Police Command were yet to comment on Tsiga’s freedom as of now.

Also Recall that the former NYSC DG was abducted by an unspecified number of bandits on February 6th, 2025, at his residence in Tsiga village, Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.

During the attack, two persons sustained various degrees of injuries and one of the gunmen was mistakenly shot dead by a member of his gang.

Police arrest man for kidnapping six-year-old in Katsina

A 21-year-old man, Halilu Yusuf, of Gezawa, via Shinkafi village has been arrested by the Katsina State Police Command for allegedly kidnapping a 6-year-old boy. The suspect who was a mentee of the boy’s father, lured the child away from their home in Kofar-Sauri and demanded a ransom of N2 million.

After abducting the boy, Yusuf hid him in his own room and later moved him to another location. However, the police were already on the suspect’s trail. Yusuf made an anonymous call to the boy’s father, demanding the ransom.

During the investigation, the suspect admitted to the crime. The police spokesman, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, stated that Yusuf would be charged in court once the investigation is complete.

Police foil kidnap attempt on graduation ceremony’s guests in Delta

Delta State police foiled a kidnapping attempt at the graduation ceremony of the Delta State Polytechnic, Oghara. Police operatives received a tip-off about a planned abduction and swiftly responded by targeting the suspected kidnappers’ hideout.

According to the police spokesperson, Bright Edafe, the kidnappers had devised a plan to target guests attending the graduation ceremony. Acting on the information, the police mobilized and launched a raid on the kidnappers’ hideout in a nearby bush.

Upon encountering the police, the suspected kidnappers attempted to flee but were pursued and engaged in a shootout. Several of the suspects sustained gunshot injuries and escaped into the nearby bushes. The police recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, an English pump action gun, and a locally made gun from the hideout.

A manhunt is currently underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects. The successful operation underscores the Delta State police’s commitment to preventing and disrupting criminal activities in the state.
