]]> In a significant shift in Western foreign policy, the United Kingdom, along with Australia and Canada, announced formal recognition of Palestinian statehood on Sunday. Britain and Canada became the first G7 nations to take such a step, with France and other countries expected to follow suit during the UN General Assembly in New York, which begins Monday.

The announcement drew swift condemnation from Israel and members of the UK opposition. Badenoch warned the move would have severe consequences.

“Absolutely disastrous. We will all rue the day this decision was made,” she wrote. “Rewarding terrorism with no conditions whatsoever put in place for Hamas. It leaves hostages languishing in Gaza and does nothing to stop the suffering of innocent people caught in this war.”

Badenoch, leader of the Conservative Party and MP for Saffron Walden, accused Starmer of focusing on “discredited student union campaigns” instead of addressing Britain’s pressing domestic issues.

“It is because Labour cannot fix the big problems in our society that they focus on appeasing the hard left,” she said. “They cannot fix the NHS, so they push assisted suicide. They cannot create jobs for young people, so they give them votes at 16. They cannot sort out immigration, but they will recognise Palestine instead.”

She also criticised Starmer’s past decisions, referencing his £35 billion reparations settlement with Mauritius and the UK’s surrender of the Chagos Islands.

“Everything we are seeing is a consequence of a Prime Minister who has no plan for the country and no judgment. He will spend the next four years delivering the hobby horses of the Labour left to stay in power and leave a HUGE mess for us to clean up,” Badenoch added.

The Ukrainian leader, who is seeking to shore up support for his country after more than three years of Russia’s invasion, is also expected at a NATO summit in The Hague later this week.


Zelensky’s spokesman told the newsmen the main purpose of the trip was to “deepen defence cooperation.”


According to his statement “The president will talk with Ukrainian military personnel undergoing training in the United Kingdom and representatives of think tanks.”


The United Kingdom has been one of Ukraine’s more staunch supporters since Russia invaded in early 2022, levelling rounds of sanctions against Moscow and supplying multiple packages of military aid.
