The district head, Muhammad Sanid Dantani, said the community remains traumatised and has turned to prayer as authorities continue rescue efforts. Armed bandits invaded the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, on Monday and kidnapped 25 students.

The attack occurred less than an hour after security personnel assigned to the school reportedly withdrew, a development community members believe created an opening for the attackers. The incident adds to a series of school kidnappings across northern Nigeria.

Residents have been holding nightly gatherings in solidarity with affected families, while Friday’s prayer is expected to draw clerics, traditional leaders and local officials. The district head said the prayer will also focus on peace and security in the region.

Governor Nasir Idris and the federal government have both promised to ensure the safe rescue of the students. A similar prayer session was held in Zuru earlier in the week.

Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris also visited the school on Monday, promising urgent action to bring the girls home safely. Lt. Gen. Shaibu emphasized the need for “intelligence-driven operations” and vowed relentless pursuit of the abductors. “We must find these children. Success is not optional,” he declared.

The abduction has left the local community in shock. Abdulkarim Abdullahi, a resident of Maga, recounted hearing gunfire from his home. “I was at home when I suddenly heard gunshots from the school. We were told the attackers arrived on many motorcycles,” he said.

In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Sani Dododo, the Kebbi chapter aligned itself with the position of PDP stakeholders in the North-West, affirming that the adoption of Turaki lacked their support.

“Kabiru Tanimu has not consulted with the Kebbi State chapter about his intentions to contest for the national chairmanship position. He has not participated in any party activities here,” Dododo stated.

He further emphasized that Turaki had never visited Kebbi to seek the support of party stakeholders or elders. “Not a single day, minute, or second has Kabiru Tanimu engaged with our party in Kebbi,” Dododo added.

The Kebbi State chapter also expressed its support for the position taken by North-West PDP leaders, who believe each state should have the right to deliberate and select its own candidate for the national chairmanship, in line with the party’s zoning arrangement.

“We completely reject the decision to adopt the former Minister of Special Duties as the party’s consensus candidate,” Dododo concluded.

The rejection comes in the wake of a meeting by northern PDP stakeholders, who endorsed Kabiru Turaki as the consensus candidate for the upcoming national elective convention, scheduled for November 15-16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The endorsement was announced by the Governor of Adamawa State, Umar Fintiri, who clarified that the consensus decision does not prevent other aspirants from contesting. The meeting was attended by key party figures, including the governors of Adamawa, Bauchi, Zamfara, and Plateau States, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, Senator Abba Moro, PDP National Chairman Umar Damagum, and other northern leaders.

The convention will elect new members of the National Working Committee to steer the party towards the 2027 general elections.

The National Union of Electricity Employees had on Monday, February 3rd, embarked on an indefinite strike over an alleged plan by the management to dismiss 900 staff of the distribution company
