The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) released its official bulletin shared on the Board’s official handle, saying that all previously uploaded results had been cleared from its system to avoid confusion in the admission process.

According to the Board, “candidates who sat the UTME with awaiting results are required to upload their O’Level results as soon as they are released. Many began uploading the WAEC 2025 SSCE before the final results were released. To avoid any confusion, the Board cleared all prior uploads, and all candidates are now required to re-upload their results, whether or not they differ from the earlier results uploaded.”

The Board further stressed that failure to comply would affect eligibility for admission consideration in the ongoing process.

“Please re-upload your 2025 SSCE result to the JAMB portal without delay,” the statement added.

Responding to a concern raised by an X user, who asked about results uploaded before the implementation of verification, JAMB maintained its position, advising: “You’re advised to please visit any of our accredited facilities to verify your result. Thank you.”

With this new directive, candidates are expected to promptly revisit accredited JAMB centres nationwide to re-upload their final WAEC results to ensure smooth processing of their admission status.

The Federal Government reiterated its stand on the 16 years as a minimum for admission into tertiary institutions.

At this year’s annual policy meeting on admissions into tertiary institutions held in Abuja, the meeting adopted 150 as the benchmark for admission into universities and 100 for polytechnics and colleges of education.

The meeting adopted 140 for colleges of nursing across the country.

This means that no tertiary institutions should admit students who score below the approved benchmarks, while institutions can still fix higher cut-off marks for their applicants.

The decision was adopted after the heads of the institutions voted.

In a statement released on Sunday morning by its Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, the board announced the results, revealing that out of the 336,845 candidates rescheduled for the examination, 21,082 were absent.

No explanation was provided for the high number of absentees, but JAMB announced a mop-up exam for candidates who missed the initial UTME, including those whose absence had no specified reason.

The Board in the statement raised concerns about widespread exam malpractice involving candidates, school proprietors, and CBT.

It was gathered that a meeting of Chief External Examiners, chaired by Prof. Olufemi Peters, endorsed the resit results based on psychometric analysis by Prof. Boniface Nworgu.

JAMB approved the release of results for under-aged candidates, though these do not qualify them for admission unless litigation is involved.

The Board also granted a one-time waiver for candidates involved in online malpractice.

According to the board, CBT centres implicated in malpractice will be blacklisted and their owners prosecuted.

Those involved in biometric or identity fraud will also face legal action.

Those involved in biometric or identity fraud will also face legal action.

JAMB also dismissed claims of high scorers in cancelled sessions, stating 99% scored below 200, with only a few reaching 217.

The Board also condemned attempts to exploit the situation, citing the case of Olisa Gabriel Chukwuemeka, who falsely claimed to have scored 326 in the 2025 UTME.

JAMB confirmed he had altered his 2024 result of 203 and had actually scored 180 in the 2025 exam before his result was withdrawn. He later deactivated his social media account following public backlash.

Recall that the results of the 2025 UTME were originally released on 9 May.

According to the Registrar of the Joint Admission Matriculation Board, JAMB, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, the blind impersonator is an undergraduate.

While speaking at a press briefing on Friday, Oloyede noted that the board remained committed to supporting persons with disabilities aspiring to pursue tertiary education.

The 2025 UTME results were officially released to the public on Friday.

Ahead of the release, JAMB provided statistics on the performance of the 1.9 million candidates who participated in the exam. The figures revealed a staggering outcome, as over 1.5 million candidates scored below 200, which is considered the average benchmark.

The UTME, which is scored over a total of 400 marks, tests candidates across four core subjects. While the Use of English is mandatory for all, candidates are allowed to choose three other subjects relevant to their intended course of study.

Reacting to the performance data, the Minister of Education,Tunji Alausa, said the results reflect the effectiveness of government efforts to curb exam malpractice.

This was made known in a statement signed by the examining body’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin.

He said that prospective candidates could now print their notification slips containing vital information regarding their exam details.

He added that the notification slip indicates the examination date, venue (centre), time, and other essential details necessary for the success of the examination

Fabian further urged the candidates to familiarize themselves with their examination centers after printing their slips at least one or two days before the examination date.

This, according to him, will ensure a smooth experience on the examination day.

The update, which is contained in JAMB’s weekly bulletin, said the registered number of candidates was as of March 8, 2025.

The Board also noted that this figure excludes candidates registered for the examination at foreign centres.

They stated that the registration process, which began on February 3, 2025, saw 2,030,627 candidates complete their registration, allowing them to participate in the UTME scheduled for April 25, 2025.

Additional 200,115 candidates have also indicated interest in taking the optional mock UTME slated for April 5, 2025.

The board noted that among them, 630 candidates have also registered for the trial mock examination, which will take place on the same date.

With registration now closed, JAMB has shifted focus to examination security, implementing new anti-cheating measures to ensure the integrity of the test.

According to the bulletin, these measures have already led to the arrest of multiple candidates attempting to gain admission using forged A-level results.

JAMB cautioned candidates against malpractice, emphasising that strict monitoring systems have been created to detect and punish fraud.

The Board warned all candidates to strictly adhere to examination guidelines and abstain from dishonest practices.

It emphasised that UTME registration is separate from school-based exams like WAEC and NECO, urging stakeholders to acknowledge this distinction and adhere to its registration protocols.

JAMB issued the advisory today via a statement by JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin following a series of complaints, including a recent case involving Godwin Nsan, who accused the University of Calabar of unjustly denying his son admission.

JAMB clarified that the candidate in question scored 201 in UTME with an aggregate score of 34%, falling below the university’s admission cut-offs of 55% (Merit), 35% (Catchment), and 35% (ELDS).

Benjamin explained that he had unduly castigated the university, but when he finally provided the required details, it became clear that his child did not meet the admission criteria.

JAMB also responded to a case where a father alleged that his son, who scored 345 in UTME, was unjustly denied admission by the University of Jos. The Board invited the father and son to its headquarters, where it was revealed that the candidate ranked 86th, while only 68 candidates could be admitted based on merit.

JAMB further warned against abuse of the “exceptionally brilliant window” introduced for candidates under 16 years old, stating that an unrealistic number of candidates have been registered through this category, unlike global standards where only a few qualify.

The Board reaffirmed its commitment to fair and transparent admissions, warning that a senior university official is currently being prosecuted for admission fraud, with four others under investigation.

JAMB Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, explained that the mock UTME is not for the purpose of tertiary institution admission but for underage seeking to test their ability.

Oloyede spoke during a meeting with media executives in Lagos, where he also announced that this year’s UTME will be held on March 8, 2025.

The JAMB Registrar said the sale of forms is starting on the 31st of January till the 5th of March, adding that there will be a mock exam on the 23rd of February and there will be UTME on the 8th of March.

Oloyede mentioned that JAMB would introduce a mock trial-testing examination only this year.

He explained that the mock-trial-testing examination is for individuals who would not qualify for admission into universities, polytechnics, or colleges of education because they are below the age of 16 years.

He added that to qualify to write UTME and secure admission into universities, polytechnics, or colleges of education, candidates must be 16 years old on or before September 30.

According to Oloyede, candidates who do not desire admission for 2025 but wish to have CBT experience could register for mock only for trial testing.

He noted that the sale of Direct Entry application documents and e-PIN vending would commence on March 10 and April 7.

Oloyede explained that those wishing to write UTME with mock would pay N8,200, for UTME only, which is without mock, and N7,200, for trial-testing mock for underage or testing only as well as direct entry candidates N5,700.

The JAMB registrar explained that the board would be enforcing the 16-year age limit for this year’s UTME registration, noting that only gifted candidates below 15 years old be allowed to register.

He added that to qualify to secure admission as an underage, the candidate must score not less than 280 marks in UTME and perform exceptionally in its senior secondary certificate and post-UTME examinations.

Former Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman,  announced last year that only candidates aged 18 and above would be admitted into tertiary institutions in the country.

The declaration attracted a lot of criticism from Nigerians, which forced the Federal Government to reverse the decision.

Mamman’s successor, Tunji Alausa, suspended the 18-year admission benchmark for tertiary institutions in the country in November 2024.

Meanwhile, Oloyede disclosed that 870 computer-based test centres had been screened and provisionally listed for the 2025 UTME compared to 747 approved last year.
