Sanya began designing the sandal on January 2, 2025, and completed it within 72 hours, on January 4, 2025.

The event held at Pixel Park in Lekki, Lagos, was attended by several celebrities, including Mayorkun, Pheelz, P.Prime, and Korty EO.

Speaking about the attempt, Sanya revealed that she started designing shoes at the age of 12 and began selling them at 14 to fund her passion.

She also expressed her gratitude to those who supported her. She also said she chose to attempt the record in Nigeria due to her connection to the country.

The Ibadan-born added that as Lagos was where she was inspired, it was only right to come back home and prove it.

Sanya’s feat is subjected to verification and confirmation by the Guinness World Records.

A group of artisans from Municipio De Sahauyo holds the current record for the world’s largest sandal. Their sandal measures 24 feet 5.31 inches long and 10 feet 1.65 inches wide.

His attempt surpassed the previous record of 25.55 seconds which was set by Bonetics Art in 2023.

Speaking about his feat via a social media post, Olupitan expressed his joy in being the first-ever GWR holder in Ibadan.

He thanked his audience who supported him during the attempt, including Oyo state’s executive adviser on youth and sports.

Anjola Olupitan’s attempt was held on February 24 at the Lekan Salami Stadium tennis court in Ibadan, Oyo state.
