Speaking at the launch event in Abuja, Walson-Jack described circulars as essential tools for governance and administration within the civil service.

She said circulars provide direction, clarify policies, and ensure that decisions are communicated consistently across the Service. However, a recurring challenge has been the accessibility and retention of these critical documents, especially as time passes and administrations change. This has, at times, hindered institutional memory and disrupted seamless service delivery.

Walson-Jack stressed that the new compendium of circulars would improve transparency, efficiency, and effectiveness in the civil service.

She further noted that the initiative reflects a commitment to modernising governance.

The union also called on governments at all levels, especially the Federal Government, to fulfill all its agreements with the union to enable public universities to breathe.

While addressing newsmen at the Nigerian Union of Journalists Press Centre in Sokoto, the zonal chairman of the union,  Abubakar Yabo, said the memorandum of action signed between the union and the Federal Government led to the suspension of their 2022 strike, which was part of 2009 Nimi Briggs agreement, has not been addressed.

ASUU said rather than addressing what was mutually agreed upon, the government, through some visitors of some state universities in conjunction with some vice-chancellors of some federal universities and their Governing Councils, have resulted in victimisation and outright emotional assault of its members.

The union noted  that while government and respective university administrators are supposed to uphold the truth and protect the sanctity of public university system, they now serve as agents of destruction of the same system they are meant to protect and promote.

The union further disclosed that the current economic hardships occasioned by the unpopular policies of governments at all levels have made teaching and learning environment so incondusive and unbearable and as such, the government has a duty to protect and respect academic freedom.

The statement said the union is amazed at the attitude of some overzealous university Vice Chancellors in the zone who have become intoxicated with power and, thus, resort to the unwholesome antics of tyranny and victimisation of innocent members of the union.

It, however, called on the federal government to stop its anti-intellectual posture and treat public universities with dignity and respect by fulfilling what it agreed with the union.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Ismaila Abubakar,  clarified this while speaking at the 13th Annual General Meeting of the Employers Association for Private Employment Agencies of Nigeria in Lagos State.

Represented by the ministry’s Director of Employment and Wages, John Nyamali,

Abubakar said the Federal Government and organised labour agreed on the new minimum wage to address the current economic situation in the country.

He emphasised that all Nigerian workers, both in government and private sectors, are expected to be paid at least N70,000 monthly.

According to him the minimum wage is now a law, and as a result, it is a punishable crime for any employer to pay less than N70,000 to any of its workers.

He added that the private employment agencies should make it compulsory in any contract they take from their principal that their workers should not earn less than the minimum wage.

Special Adviser  to President Bola Tinubu on Energy, Olu Verheijen disclosed this at an inaugural US-Nigeria Strategic Energy Dialogue, hosted by the US State Department, in Washington, DC.

Speaking at a luncheon organised as part of the inaugural dialogue, Verheijen said the upstream gas project would deliver 350 million standard cubic feet of gas per day when operational.

A statement on the event signed by Morenike Adewunmi, Stakeholder Manager, Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Energy, was made available to newsmen  in Abuja.

Verheijen told the gathering that major energy reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu since June 2023 focused on improving energy security, attracting investments and deepening collaboration with key partners including the the US government.

She said the key reforms had improved the viability of the gas-to-power value chain of the country

The reforms according to her, included initiatives to improve cash flows in electricity distribution through smart metering and the payment of outstanding debts owed investors, and to reduce carbon emissions from gas production.

She added that, to support the reform efforts, the President issued five new executive orders aimed at providing fiscal incentives for investment.and reducing the cost and time of finalising and implementing contracts to develop and expand gas infrastructure.

The presidential aide said the directives also aimed to immediately unlock up to 2.5 billion dollard in new oil and gas investments in the country.

She acknowledged the support of financing and technical partners like the US government, the World Bank and the African Development Bank towards expanding electricity access and reliability through grid and off-grid solutions.

It also noted that interested marketers would have to buy the product from the national oil firm through its trading company.

This was part of the agreement reached with the management of Dangote Refinery on the commercial terms for the supply of crude oil to the refinery and the off-taking and distribution of petrol and diesel from the facility.

The Minister of Finance and the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, disclosed this at a press briefing in Abuja.

The latest development, however, contradicts NNPC’s claim in a statement early this month that it does not intend to be the sole distributor of petrol produced by the Dangote refinery.

The directive also implies that the government can still control the pricing of the product as it would be based on the agreement between the government and the refinery.

The minister, represented by the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service,  Zacceus Adedeji, also announced that Dangote refinery will commence the distribution of petrol to marketers on Sunday with an initial 25 million litres per day.

The minister also said all associated regulatory costs pertaining to the Nigeria Ports Authority, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency and others would also be paid for in naira.

Lukeman, a staunch critic of the present government, made the allegation while featuring on a TV programme.

The APC chieftain who failed to back his claim with data, expressed concerns that the alleged action of the Federal Government would worsen corruption in the country.

Admitting the failure of the party to solve the country’s critical problems, particularly insecurity, Lukman said the security situation in the country is worsening under Tinubu’s government.

He said, 2014-2015, as a party, they promised three things; to revive the economy, to deal with corruption and fight insecurity.

On the issue of insecurity, at that time, the critical issue was Boko Haram but it  didn’t degenerate to banditry.

He further stated that the ruling and opposition parties are all the same so in actuality Nigeria has no parties, just politicians who act the same way.

He said this during a meeting with the World Bank Nigeria team at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Shettima, who said that the move would address human capacity and resource challenges to improve learning outcomes, assured that President Bola Tinubu was committed to driving change in the country.

He said that with the evolving global technological landscape President Tinubu would harness all the available opportunities to add value to the country.

Shettima referenced India’s success in using KYAN smart class solutions, to teach students in rural areas, suggesting that similar innovations could revolutionise Nigeria’s education system.

He advocated a holistic approach to education reform, including improving infrastructure, teacher training, and the implementation of technology.

He said the federal government is committed to making the necessary changes, but the cooperation of all stakeholders, including state governors, is needed to drive this transformation forward.

Earlier, the World Bank’s Country Director for Nigeria,  Ndiame Diop, outlined the bank’s focus on improving governance, health, and education across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory ,FCT.

Diop, in a presentation on Opportunities for Prosperity and Equity in Nigeria’s Human Capital, said the bank was working to reinvigorate governance, primary healthcare, and education facilities across the country.

Diop said the projects, HOPE – Governance, HOPE Primary Health Care and HOPE Basic Education, are part of a broader push to reform governance processes, primary healthcare and education, with an emphasis on human capital development.

According to Diop, HOPE series interdependent operations are result-based financing – programme for results – primarily at the sub-national levels.
