Dangote Petroleum Refinery has launched the sale of Premium Motor Spirit at a pump price of N739 per litre, making the product available at all MRS Oil Nigeria plc filling stations nationwide.

With over 2,000 MRS stations nationwide, the reduced pricing is expected to benefit consumers across the country, marking a major step in the refinery’s efforts to provide affordable fuel to Nigerians and stabilise the downstream petroleum sector.

In a statement, the refinery commended marketers that have adopted the new pricing and called on others to follow suit.

“We commend MRS and other marketers who have demonstrated patriotism by reflecting the reduced price at the pump. We call on others to join this effort as a show of support for Nigeria’s economic recovery,” the statement read.

The refinery’s intervention comes amid the typical scarcity of fuel during festive periods, delivering a timely relief by lowering pump prices while ensuring a guaranteed daily supply of 50 million litres.

Analysts say local refining at scale not only eases domestic supply but also reduces Nigeria’s exposure to global market volatility, conserves foreign exchange, stabilises the naira, and strengthens energy security.

The company has warned against attempts by unscrupulous operators to create artificial scarcity, urging regulatory authorities to take firm action.

“Any attempt to create artificial scarcity or manipulate supply to frustrate recent price reductions is unpatriotic and unacceptable. We urge regulatory authorities to remain vigilant and take firm action against such practices, especially during this critical festive period,” the refinery said.

Consumers are also being urged to avoid purchasing fuel at inflated prices when affordable, high-quality alternatives are available.

“We encourage Nigerians to avoid buying PMS at excessively high prices when they can access locally refined fuel at N739 per litre from over 2,000 MRS stations nationwide. Report any MRS station selling above N739 per litre by calling 08001235264. We also call on other petrol station operators to patronise our products so that the benefits of this price reduction can be passed on to Nigerians across all outlets, ensuring broad-based relief and a more stable downstream market,” the refinery added.

Dangote Petroleum Refinery reaffirmed its commitment to consistent supply, price moderation, and energy security.

“Our objective remains clear: to ensure a consistent supply of high-quality petroleum products at affordable prices for Nigerians, while supporting economic stability and reducing dependence on imports,” the company said.

The refinery recently introduced a reduction in the minimum purchase volume from 2 million litres to 250,000 litres, along with a 10-day bank guarantee system to ensure uninterrupted supply and boost marketers’ confidence. Since these measures were implemented, over 1,000 trucks have been loading PMS daily from the refinery’s gantry.

Speaking on the development, the President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, said: “Our goal has always been to make energy affordable and accessible for every Nigerian. By reducing prices and lowering the minimum purchase volume, we are empowering both large and small marketers to participate in the market, ensuring fuel reaches every corner of the country.”

The inclusive approach aims to expand distribution networks, strengthen market competition, and improve nationwide fuel availability.

Dangote emphasised that the refinery project was driven by legacy rather than profit, noting that he could have invested $20 billion elsewhere if financial gain were his sole objective.

In support of the initiative, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) urged its members to source PMS from Dangote Refinery.

In a statement by IPMAN National President, Alhaji Abubakar Maigandi, the association said: “The association has the highest percentage of the supply chain of the PMS downstream sector, controlling over 80 per cent of the PMS retail market. We, therefore, declare that there will be no gap or scarcity in PMS supply to Nigerians.”

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC has invited Aliko Dangote, a prominent businessman, to provide more information regarding his petition against Alhaji Farouk Ahmed, the former Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA.

Dangote has accused Ahmed of corruption, misappropriation of funds, and economic sabotage, specifically alleging that Ahmed spent millions of dollars on his children’s education in Switzerland and colluded with international traders to undermine domestic refining.

The ICPC has set up a panel of investigators to handle the probe and has asked Dangote to submit evidence to support his claims. Ahmed’s resignation as NMDPRA MD does not affect the investigation, which is in the public interest.

“ICPC has set up a panel of crack investigators on Dangote’s petition. The Chairman of the commission, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN) asked the trusted team to stay action  on a case and focus  on Dangote’s petition. This underscores the importance attached to this case,” the source said.

Farouk Ahmed has resigned as Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, following corruption allegations raised by Aliko Dangote, Chairman of the Dangote Group.

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed Ahmed’s resignation in a statement revealing that Gbenga Komolafe had stepped down as Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC. Onanuga added that President Bola Tinubu had submitted the names of two nominees to the Senate for confirmation as replacements.

The President has nominated Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan as CEO of NUPRC and Saidu Mohammed as NMDPRA MD. Onanuga described the nominees as seasoned professionals within the oil and gas sector.

Ahmed’s resignation follows a tense exchange with Dangote, which saw the billionaire industrialist petition the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the former NMDPRA chief for alleged financial misconduct.

Dangote’s petition, submitted through his lawyer Ogwu Onoja, accused Ahmed of living beyond his means, claiming that four of Ahmed’s children had attended secondary schools in Switzerland, with costs running into millions of dollars. According to Dangote, approximately $5 million had been spent on their education and upkeep over six years, in addition to $2 million for tertiary education, including a $210,000 fee for a Harvard MBA program for one of Ahmed’s children.

The petition called on the ICPC to arrest, investigate, and prosecute Ahmed, urging swift action to protect the integrity of President Tinubu’s administration.

“We have no reservation that the ICPC will act decisively to ensure that justice is done,” the petition read. The ICPC has confirmed it will investigate the allegations.

The controversy between Ahmed and Dangote intensified following a series of public accusations. Dangote accused Ahmed’s NMDPRA of sabotaging Nigeria’s local refining capacity by issuing import licenses for petroleum products. At a press conference at Dangote Refinery in Lagos, the billionaire alleged that the regulator was working with international traders and oil importers, undermining local operators and perpetuating the country’s reliance on fuel imports.

In response, Ahmed issued a brief statement dismissing Dangote’s allegations as “wild and spurious.” He added, “As a regulator of a sensitive industry, I have opted not to engage in public brickbats. Thankfully, the person behind the allegations has taken it to a formal investigative institution. I believe that will provide an opportunity to clear my name.”

The receipt of the petition filed against the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, Farouk Ahmed, has been confirmed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC.

The spokesperson of the anti-graft agency, John Okor Odey, said, “The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) writes to confirm that it received a formal petition today, Tuesday, 16th December 2025, from Alhaji Aliko Dangote through his lawyer. The petition is against the CEO of the NMDPRA, Alhaji Farouk Ahmed.”

In the petition, the Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, made a call on the ICPC to arrest, investigate, and prosecute Ahmed over allegations of corruption and financial impropriety, saying that the alleged spending doesn’t match earnings from public service, adding that such a situation would ordinarily attract scrutiny from tax authorities.

According to the petition, Dangote claimed that Ahmed spent over $5 million on the education of his four children in Switzerland, reportedly paid upfront for six years, without any lawful or recognised source of income to justify such expenditure.

“That Engr Farouk Ahmed has grossly abused his office contrary to the extant provisions of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers and, by so doing, enmeshed himself in monumental corruption and unlawful spending of public funds running into millions of dollars.

“That Engr. Farouk Ahmed spent, without evidence of lawful means of income, a humongous sum of over $7m of public funds on the education of his four children in different schools in Switzerland for a period of six years upfront,” the petition stated.

Dangote, further accused Ahmed of diverting public funds for personal gain through the instrumentality of the NMDPRA, an action he claimed fuelled public outrage and recent protests by civil society groups.

“It is without doubt that the above facts in relation to abuse of office, breach of the Code of Conduct for public officers, corrupt enrichment and embezzlement are gross acts of corrupt practices for which your Commission is statutorily empowered under Section 19 of the ICPC Act to investigate and prosecute,” Dangote said.

The Dangote Refinery’s decision to reduce the gantry price of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as Petrol, has triggered significant losses for fuel importers, depot owners, and retail marketers.

According to journalists, petrol importers are on the verge of losing as much as N102.48bn monthly after the Dangote refinery reduced its gantry price from N828 per litre to N699.

At the same time, the refinery is also projected to lose about N91bn in a month as a direct consequence of the price cut, underscoring the intensity of the competition currently reshaping Nigeria’s downstream oil market.

The development has exposed deep fault lines in the deregulated petroleum market, with winners and losers emerging almost simultaneously.

The reduction in petrol gantry price came just days after the refinery assured Nigerians of sufficient fuel supply to avoid queues at filling stations during the festive period. The company also announced a 10-day credit facility for marketers, stating that the new price regime took effect from December 12.

Many Nigerians have welcomed the price reduction as a major relief, especially during the Yuletide season, fuel marketers running filling stations across the country say they are counting heavy losses, as they would be forced to sell existing stocks purchased at higher prices below cost.

The Dangote Petroleum refinery and its partners are set to begin selling petrol at N739 per litre, coming two days after the refinery slashed its petrol gantry price from N828 to N699 per litre.

The President of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, in a chat with journalists at the Lekki refinery, said he was aware that, despite lower gantry prices, some filling stations are sabotaging Dangote’s efforts by keeping pump prices high.

According to him, MRS would commence the sale of petrol at N739 per litre, while other partners would follow. Dangote alleged that some officials had met with certain marketers and encouraged them to keep prices high in order to frustrate the price reduction, stressing that he would fight to enforce the new price regime.

“I was told that the marketers have met with some officials and were told to make sure that the price is maintained high. But this price we are going to introduce, we are going to start with MRS stations, most likely on Tuesday in Lagos; that N970 per litre, you won’t see it again. We have also asked members of IPMAN to come now. We have asked anybody who can buy 10 trucks to come and buy 10 trucks at N699″

“We are going to use whatever resources that we have to make sure that we crash the price down. We will get these sales; maybe it will take us a week to 10 days. But first of all, within a week to 10 days, we will be able to deliver. For this December and January, we don’t want people to sell petrol for more than N740 nationwide. Those who want to keep the price to sabotage the government, we will fight as much as we can to make sure that these prices are down. That’s not the price. If you have money to come and buy, you can pick up petrol at N699,” he said.

Dangote said transporting petrol from the refinery costs no more than N15 per litre, questioning why pump prices would rise as high as N900 per litre. He also accused the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority of issuing 47 import licences to bring in more than seven billion litres of petrol in the first quarter of 2026, a move he said was killing local investments.

The billionaire businessman assured Nigerians that the N739 per litre price would be enforced, beginning with MRS station. “Starting from Tuesday, MRS will start selling petrol at N739/litre. Definitely, we will enforce that low price. We will make sure that it’s implemented. If you have your truck, you can come here and buy it. We are selling at N699. The N699 includes the percentage of NMDPRA. So what actually comes out to us is about N389 or so,” he stated.

Contacted for his reaction, the NMDPRA spokesman, George Ene-Ita, said, “For now, no comment.”

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has again slashed its petrol gantry price, reducing the ex-depot rate from N828 to N699 per litre, a 15.6% drop.

Real-time data from Petroleumprice.ng confirmed the new benchmark, which was also verified by a refinery official who said the facility is committed to maintaining competitive local pricing.

The latest cut marks the refinery’s 20th petrol price adjustment this year as production ramps up and competition with imported fuel intensifies.

Aliko Dangote recently reaffirmed that domestic fuel prices would keep trending downward despite global market volatility and ongoing fuel smuggling to neighbouring countries.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has stopped the monthly salaries of engineers laid off during its dispute with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).

The workers say their salaries were cut after many of them refused redeployment to states such as Zamfara, Borno, Benue, and Sokoto.

Some engineers said they were posted to coal mines, rice mills, and road construction sites, locations they consider unsafe or unrelated to their training. While a few accepted the new placements, many rejected them, relying on PENGASSAN’s assurance that the matter would be resolved through negotiation.

The company reportedly reduced their pay in October before stopping it completely the following month.

A Dangote official confirmed the salary stoppage, saying the firm would not continue paying workers who declined alternative jobs, arguing that the company had offered new roles in other Dangote projects and that those who accepted had already resumed.

The affected engineers insist the move amounts to victimisation. They also say their redeployment letters lacked proper reporting addresses and posted them to areas they described as security risks.

PENGASSAN President, Festus Osifo, said the union is still in talks with Dangote to resolve outstanding issues. He said negotiations are ongoing and that the union prefers dialogue to another industrial action.

The disagreement began after PENGASSAN accused the refinery of firing hundreds of workers for joining the union. Dangote denied this, saying only a few staff involved in sabotage were removed.

As discussions continue, the engineers say they are now stuck between losing their jobs and accepting deployments they believe are unsafe and irregular. The final outcome depends on ongoing talks between the union and the Dangote Group.

The refinery has slashed its price by N49 per litre, lowering it from N877 to N828. This price adjustment, which took effect on Friday, marks a 5.6% decrease and is the refinery’s second major price revision in three months.

The decision comes amid continued fluctuations in the global oil market and follows the refinery’s ongoing efforts to stabilize domestic fuel supply and manage rising operational costs. According to a report by Petroleumprice.ng, the price cut was confirmed by several industry sources, including a marketing representative, who confirmed the new price structure.

Despite the price reduction, petrol prices at pump stations remain high across the country due to tightening fuel margins and the overall cost of distribution. As of the latest data, MRS Oil was selling petrol at N870 per litre in the parallel depot market, while other major depots have yet to align their prices with Dangote’s new pricing structure.

The Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria, MOMAN, also confirmed the reduction in its daily energy bulletin. However, the same bulletin reported that other key petroleum products, such as diesel and aviation fuel, have seen significant price increases, even as the price of petrol has dropped slightly.

The price of petrol in the parallel market remains higher than Dangote’s refinery gantry price. The 30-day moving average price for petrol, after accounting for various additional costs like freight and port charges, stood at N824.10 per litre, while spot market prices were reported at N830.80 per litre for ASPAM and N830.82 per litre for NPSC–NOJ.

The reduction in petrol prices by Dangote Refinery comes at a time of intense economic debate, particularly regarding the proposed 15% tariff hike in the power sector. Olatide Jeremiah, CEO of Petroleumprice.ng, noted that the price cut is a positive development, signaling Dangote Refinery’s commitment to ensuring the affordability and availability of key petroleum products.
