The Society made this known through its Executive Director, Wasiu Oyedokun-Allí while speaking with journalists at this month’s edition of the State of the State Address, where he noted that such dialogue will bridge divides and place Osun above partisanship, adding that the interest of the people at the grassroots must be protected at all costs.

“An urgent round-table needs to be convened, bring together representatives of the State Government, Local Government officials, political parties, civil society and community leaders. Such dialogue will help bridge divides and place Osun above partisanship,” he said.

The Society frowned at the gruesome killing of one Moruf Adebisi by unidentified individuals in the Dada Estate Area of Osogbo, the State Capital.

They urged security agencies to take swift action to ensure that those responsible are held accountable and brought to justice promptly.

The Society further called on relevant stakeholders to mediate in the lingering impasse between Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN ) and Dangote, emphasizing that both parties share blame for the escalation of the dispute.

This comes as the economy shuts down today owing to the public holiday declared by the federal government to honour ex-president Muhammadu Buhari.

The national president of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Abubakar Maigandi, disclosed this in an interview.

According to him, the decision to cut the petrol price comes after members of IPMAN held a meeting in response to Dangote Refinery’s ex-depot price drop to N820 per litre from N840.

Specifically, Maigandi diaclosed that IPMAN members in Abuja will, from Tuesday, dispense petrol between N900 and N920 per litre, down from N905 and N945.

“We met on Tuesday and agreed to reduce petrol price to between N900 and N920 per litre for our members in Abuja, north central.
“Similarly, our members in some other parts of the country will be selling below around N860 and N890 per litre, he affirmed.

Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has announced that it will refund customers who purchase Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, at rates higher than the advertised prices from any of its key partners across Nigeria.

The move follows the refinery’s recent reduction of its gantry price from N890 per litre to N825 per litre.

The refinery stated that this is part of its ongoing efforts to ensure that Nigerians are the primary beneficiaries of the price reduction and in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to stimulate the economy.

In a statement issued over the weekend, the refinery confirmed it will refund N65 per litre on the over 200,000 metric tonnes of PMS purchased by marketers at the old price of N890 per litre, prior to the new rate of N825 per litre.

Dangote refinery also absorbed N16bn loss by refunding N65/litre to marketers so Nigerians will benefit from cheaper fuel.

The statement noted that the step which will be effective from February 27, 2025, guarantees that none of their business partners will experience a loss due to the price change. More importantly, it ensures that the new, lower rate takes immediate effect nationwide for the benefit of the Nigerian people.

The refinery emphasised that this initiative extends beyond MRS Holdings, AP, and Heyden.

It urged other marketers sourcing stock from it to pass on the benefits of the new pricing to consumers at the retail level, encouraging a collective commitment to affordable, quality products.
Dangote also condemned any exploitation of the new pricing structure, saying it is both unpatriotic and detrimental to the welfare of Nigerians for any party to purchase at a rate of N825 per litre and then sell to consumers at N945 or more per litre.

With the new gantry price set at N825 per litre, Dangote Refinery expects that no Nigerian will pay more than N900 per litre for PMS, regardless of location or petrol station. The refinery also underlined its commitment to providing high-quality, eco-friendly fuel that benefits vehicle performance and supports public health.

The latest reduction aims to ease transportation costs during the festive period, a time when Nigerians often face increased travel expenses.

Announcing the special purchase offer, Chiejina said consumers can now buy an additional litre of fuel on credit for every litre purchased in cash, provided they secure a bank guarantee from some commercial banks.

The refinery thanked Nigerians for their continued patronage and reiterated its commitment to supplying high-quality, environmentally friendly petroleum products at competitive prices.

The National Secretary of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, James Tor, disclosed this in an interview.

His statement comes after IPMAN National President, Abubakar Maigandi, announced that Dangote Refinery has agreed to sell petrol directly to its members.

The agreement between IPMAN and the 650,000 barrels per day Dangote Refinery brings an end to the middleman posture played by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited on the inaugural lifting of Dangote Petrol on September 16, 2024.

Similarly, reports say the direct sale agreement means that petrol marketers have dumped imported fuel for Dangote petrol.

Speaking on the impact of the direct purchase agreement between IPMAN and Dangote Refinery, Tor explained that Nigerians will experience a drastic reduction in the price of petrol and a boost in the products’ availability nationwide.

According to him, the agreement would make the pump price of petrol at Independent marketers’ retail outlets drop below N1,150 per litre.

It was reported that in a statement,  the NNPC gave a chart breakdown of the refined petrol product it bought from the refinery.

The nation’s oil firm stated that it is paying the Dangote refinery in United States dollars for the September 2024 petrol offtake, adding that Naira transactions will only commence on October 1st, 2024.

While the data of the estimated price to be sold around the country remains the same, the analysis of the transaction it had with Dangote Refinery was altered.

While the first press statement had a Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority fee of ₦8.99, the second statement showed ₦4.495.

The first statement had an inspection fee of ₦0.97, a margin fee of ₦26.48 and a distribution fee of ₦15.

In the second statement,  there were no inspection and margin fees, while the distribution fee was changed to ₦42.45.

The second statement also had an additional Midstream and Gas Infrastructure Fund fee of ₦4.495.

It also noted that interested marketers would have to buy the product from the national oil firm through its trading company.

This was part of the agreement reached with the management of Dangote Refinery on the commercial terms for the supply of crude oil to the refinery and the off-taking and distribution of petrol and diesel from the facility.

The Minister of Finance and the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, disclosed this at a press briefing in Abuja.

The latest development, however, contradicts NNPC’s claim in a statement early this month that it does not intend to be the sole distributor of petrol produced by the Dangote refinery.

The directive also implies that the government can still control the pricing of the product as it would be based on the agreement between the government and the refinery.

The minister, represented by the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service,  Zacceus Adedeji, also announced that Dangote refinery will commence the distribution of petrol to marketers on Sunday with an initial 25 million litres per day.

The minister also said all associated regulatory costs pertaining to the Nigeria Ports Authority, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency and others would also be paid for in naira.
