The match, held at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, descended into chaos after 3SC scored a dramatic late equaliser. In response, sections of the home crowd stormed the pitch, attacking visiting players, referees, and match officials.

Disturbing videos shared across social media captured the violence and panic that ensued, prompting widespread condemnation.

In a statement released late Sunday on the club’s social media platforms, Musa also a former captain of the Super Eaglesstrongly denounced the actions of the fans and took full responsibility on behalf of Kano Pillars.

“I, Ahmed Musa, the General Manager of Kano Pillars Football Club, extend my deepest and most sincere apologies for the unfortunate, painful, and disgraceful incident that occurred during our game against Shooting Stars Sports Club,” the statement stated.

Musa described the scenes as “heartbreaking, shameful, and completely unacceptable,” adding that the incident does not reflect the values of the club.

“What transpired is not who we are. Kano Pillars has always stood for community, passion, and respect values that must never be overshadowed by violence or indiscipline. Sadly, today, we fell far short of that standard.”

He issued a wide-ranging apology to all affected, including Shooting Stars players, officials, fans, match referees, NPFL organisers, and the broader football community.

“I know how painful it must have been to witness something so damaging to our game, and I am deeply, deeply sorry,” Musa stated.

Calling for calm and accountability, the club boss vowed that those responsible for the violence would be identified and punished.

“Violence has no place in football. It is unacceptable, unjustifiable, and goes against everything this beautiful sport stands for. We will work closely with the authorities to ensure those behind this shameful act face the full consequences of their actions.”

The list was released today by the Nigeria Football Federation.

Musa, who last featured for the Super Eagles before their silver-winning campaign at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations, headlines the provisional squad released by newly appointed head coach, Eric Chelle.

Also making the list is in-form Genk talisman, Tolu Arokodare, who has been in blistering form in the Belgian Jupiler League, netting 15 goals this season.

Arokodare is one of four fresh faces in Chelle’s squad, alongside Anthony Dennis (FC Göztepe), Papa Daniel Mustapha (formerly of Niger Tornadoes), and Slavia Prague’s Igoh Ogbu.

The squad also sees the return of Remo Stars goalkeeper, Kayode Bankole, and Southampton forward, Paul Onuachu, as Nigeria looks to revive its qualification hopes.

The Super Eagles, currently fifth in Group C, will take on Rwanda in Kigali on March 21 before hosting Zimbabwe in Uyo on March 25.
