]]> A faction of the Accord Party has produced Clement Bamigbola as its governorship candidate for the 2026 Osun State election, just four days after the emergence of Governor Ademola Adeleke as the party’s flagbearer.

 

The Chris Imumolen-led faction has strongly criticised Governor Ademola Adeleke over his defection to the Accord Party. The group has described the move as a ‘back-door entry’ and has declared it ‘invalid.’

According to the group Imumolen-led faction, proper party procedures were not followed, raising serious questions about the legitimacy of the governor’s reported action.

Party insiders claim that such a move threatens internal cohesion and could deepen existing divisions within political circles.

Recall that Adeleke had earlier emerged as the party’s candidate, being the sole aspirant in the exercise.
However, a faction of the party rejected his emergence, insisting that Barrister Maxwell Ngbudem is not the legally recognised national chairman of the Accord Party.

In a fresh development on Sunday, about 300 delegates of the Accord Party from across Osun State elected Bamigbola as the factional candidate during a primary held at Regina Suite, Osogbo.
Bamigbola emerged through a voice vote conducted by the delegates, after which the Chairman of the Primary Committee, Hon. Olufemi Ogundare, declared him the party’s candidate for the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

Following his declaration, Ogundare and other party leaders formally presented the party’s flag to Bamigbola ahead of the 2026 contest.

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has officially announced that he is now a member of the Accord Party and will seek re-election for a second term on the party’s platform.

The Governor made this known during an event at the Government House banquet hall, with national and state leaders of the Accord Party present.

The governor explained that he joined the Accord Party after weeks of discussions with different stakeholders.

According to him, the decision was made so he could continue the work his administration has already started and deliver more good governance to the people of Osun State.

He said the Accord Party’s focus on people’s welfare fits perfectly with his own commitment to the wellbeing of citizens and workers.

The governor welcomed the party leaders, saying they are now united with his team in working for the progress of Osun State, stressing the need for unity, inclusiveness, and collective effort as the state prepares for the next election.

Governor Adeleke praised the Accord Party’s philosophy, saying that government must always put the welfare and wellbeing of the people first. He noted that his administration has consistently worked to improve the lives of Osun residents through policies, infrastructure, and social services.

He declared the Accord Party as the new platform for the people of Osun State, calling on all zones and communities, from Osun West, East, and Central to areas such as Igbomina, Ijeshaland, Ifeland, Osogbo, Iwoland, Modakeke, Gbongan, Igbajo, Ikire, Ikirun, and Ede to support the movement with their “thumbs up” symbol.

The governor expressed confidence that just as Osun people voted for good governance before, they will support continuity in the next election.
