Fire destroys 15 rooms in Kwara

Not less than 15 rooms have been reportedly destroyed by a fire outbreak that occurred yesterday at Ejiba Street, off Stadium Road, Ilorin, Kwara state capital.

The fire, caused by negligence in the handling of a gas cooker, was the second incident recorded by the state fire service in Ilorin, in one week.

A statement by the Head of Media and Publicity of the state’s fire service,Hassan Adekunle said on Friday, March 7, 2025, at about 8:05 pm, the agency attended to a distress call regarding a fire outbreak at Ejiba Road, beside Ejiba Bridge, Ilorin, Kwara State.

The statement said, the fire crew responded swiftly and arrived to find several rooms ablaze. Out of 104 rooms in the storey building, they successfully saved 89, with only 15 affected by the inferno.

According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by a gas cooker left unattended.

It would be recalled that a sparkling fire emanating from a gas cooker on Wednesday destroyed seven rooms in the Oke-Apomu area of the Ilorin West LG of the state.

The fire, which occurred at number 90, Koro compound, Oke-Apomu area, Ilorin, affected a one-storey building containing 20 rooms, seven of which were completely burnt.

The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, reacting to the incident, urged the public to prioritize safety at all times, emphasising that this was the second fire incident within a week linked to negligence in handling gas cookers.
