Amotekun kills one, arrests two in Ogun robbery shootout

The Ogun State Security Network, otherwise known as the Amotekun Corps, engaged a gang of robbers in a gun duel near Southwestern University along the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Expressway, killing one suspect and arresting two others.

One of the arrested gang members, Amechi Okoro, reportedly confessed that he had just been released from the Ikoyi Correctional Centre last Monday.

The Corps Commander,  Alade Adedigba, disclosed this in a statement sent to journalists today.

Adedigba said,  Amechi Okoro, was arrested during the gun duel with the corps, and this led operatives to their hideout, which resulted in the arrest of another gang member, Michael Oko, who had earlier escaped from the crime scene.

The Corps Commander noted that the robbers were part of an armed gang terrorising the Odogbolu axis of the Lagos-Benin Expressway.

Items recovered from them included a motorcycle, 12 mobile phones, two locally made pistols, a sum of N113,050, a silver wristwatch, and a red headset.

He explained that Oko hails from Anambra State but resides at No. 3 Olufuwa Street, Ago Iwoye, while Okoro, who previously lived in the Agric area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, is originally from Onitsha, also in Anambra State.

Adedigba disclosed that the body of the deceased had been evacuated by the police adding that the two arrested suspects would be transferred to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
