Governor Adeleke Exercises Prerogative of Mercy towards 53 Convicts

In line with the recommendations of the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, Governor Ademola Adeleke has  pardoned 53 convicts serving various convictions within the Nigerian Correctional Service.

This is contained in a statement from the Spokesperson to Osun State Governor, Olawale Rasheed, where he noted that a letter of commutation, which was dated 24th of December 2024, has been received and acknowledged by relevant prison authorities.

According to him, the pardon cuts across offenders with simple offenses who have served a substantial portion of the sentence, as well as convicts to death who have spent a minimum of 10 years in jail.

Not less than 30 inmates with simple offenses were released, while 12 convicted inmates with other simple offenses were outrightly released.

In the same vein, a convict’s jail term was reduced from a death sentence to a 15-year jail term; 4 convicts were commuted from the death sentence to outright pardon, while 6 other inmates were released.
