The Minister of Works David Umahi, who announced this said these measures aim to accelerate project timelines and extend the lifespan of federal roads.
The policy details, shared with the press by the Minister’s Special Adviser on Media, Uchenna Orji, include several key changes. Among them are the adoption of rigid pavements, a reduction in contractors’ claims for price variations, the elimination of the consumer price index from contracts, and the implementation of uniform pricing across regions.
Additional reforms include heightened oversight of ongoing projects, the introduction of a whistle-blowing system to report substandard work, prioritization of projects within economic corridors, and a mandate to complete one carriageway before starting the second in dualized projects.
The Ministry has also collaborated with the Ministry of Steel Development to revitalize the Ajaokuta Steel Company, launched the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund, and initiated the second phase of the Highway Development Management Initiative.
These initiatives, part of the Renewed Hope Road Infrastructure Revolution Agenda under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, are designed to ensure efficient use of funds, enhance road quality, and boost economic growth.
