In anticipation of the Edo State governorship election on September 21, the All Progressives Congress (APC) welcomed hundreds of defectors from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party, and the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) on Wednesday. The defection event took place in Igueben, the headquarters of the Igueben Local Government Area.
Matthew Urhoghide, the Director-General of the APC Campaign Council, assured the new members of equal treatment within the APC and expressed confidence in the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, who he believes will treat everyone fairly.
Odianosen Okojie, the Coordinator of the APC Campaign Council for the Edo Central Senatorial District, urged the defectors to come out in large numbers on September 21 to vote for the APC.
Meanwhile, Okpebholo addressed party supporters in his hometown of Ujabhole in Esan Central Local Government Area, expressing his confidence in local support. His running mate, Dennis Idahosa, also encouraged supporters to vote for the APC on election day.
Former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole, speaking in Irrua, the headquarters of Esan Central Local Government Area, claimed that the PDP had no viable candidate and urged voters not to waste their votes.
