Benue CP leads team to rescue abducted medical students

Days after the abduction of 20 medical students from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos, security operatives are still combing the forest to rescue them.

The medical students were abducted last Thursday along the Otukpo/Otukpa/Enugu federal highway while they were travelling to Enugu State for the Federation of Catholic  Medical and Dental Students’ annual convention.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had at the weekend deployed a tactical team to ensure that the abducted students were rescued.

It was learnt that the IG team arrived in Benue State on  Monday and was promptly deployed to Otukpo in search of the abducted students.

The spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, Catherine Anene, told reporters  that the Commissioner of Police, Hassan Yabanet, led the team to Otukpo.

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Medical Students Association, Abwa Lawrence, said the state government had assured them that the abducted students would be rescued
