N’Assembly tasks staff on technology, innovation

The Nigerian National Assembly has issued a strong call for its staff to embrace technology in order to boost productivity and modernize its operations. Magaji Tambawal, the Clerk to the National Assembly, delivered this charge during the opening ceremony of a four-day capacity-building and training program designed for 318 staff members ranging from grade levels 10 to 14.

In his keynote address, Tambawal emphasized that training and retraining are essential components of professional growth and development, particularly in today’s fast-paced and ever-evolving work environment. He underscored the fact that the National Assembly Management, under his leadership, has identified human capacity building as a core priority area of focus in their efforts to develop,
strengthen, and reposition the National Assembly to effectively carry out its statutory responsibilities.


Tambawal further elaborated on the significance of technology adoption, stating that it is no longer an option but a necessity for the National Assembly to remain relevant and efficient in the contemporary landscape. He highlighted the various ways in which technology can be leveraged to enhance productivity, improve communication, and streamline processes within the institution.


He specifically mentioned the potential of technology to facilitate remote work, enhance collaboration among staff members, and provide access to vital information and resources. Tambawal also emphasized the importance of data-driven decision-making and the role that technology can play in collecting, analyzing, and utilizing data to inform policy decisions and improve service delivery.


The four-day capacity-building program was designed to equip the participating staff members with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to effectively integrate technology into their work practices. The training modules covered a wide range of topics, including digital literacy, data management, cybersecurity, and the use of specific software applications relevant to the National Assembly’s operations.


Tambawal expressed his hope that the training program would empower the staff members to become more confident and proficient in utilizing technology, thereby contributing to the overall modernization and efficiency of the National Assembly. He urged the participants to take full advantage of the opportunity to acquire new skills and apply them to their work in a meaningful way.
